dial-up networking

It depends on which OS you use. It is added form Control Panel Networking --> Configuration --> Add Button --> Select and install. Depending on your OS, you should definitely go to the MS site and get the latest upgrade. In Win95, the latest is version 1.4. Then install the update.

assumptions:

1.You are trying to play multiplayer civ with a freind across the street, town, city etc.

2.You both have internet access

3.You both have a multiplayer version of the game

4.You both have the latest patch(available here in the d/ls collection)

5.You both have an instant messenger of some kind(icq, aim etc)

First thing is to setup the game.Start multiplayer game etc.Select "Internet Game".Each window is fairly straight forward.

When you get to a screen like this:

copy and paste that ip address into your messenger and sent it to your freind.He/she then enters it in a similiar window thru the "join game" menus.

Before doing that though, continue to this window:

Now just wait until you see your freind's name/handle appear. This may take several minutes.

Start the game and the next set of windows you will have seen before as you select your civ and what not.

Ahhh... I see! I think you're right, Smash, thanks! He was probably not referring to MS DUN, but MP Networking. :crazyeye:

@stickmanbob: My post is telling you how to install/upgrade your MS Dial Up Networking (DUN). Disregard my post if your can get on the internet with your machine already.... do not go changing things in Control Panel, if your MS DUN is already working ;) ;).

Oh ok sorry then.

You are asking for more trouble than its worth though.I don't know of anyone that has had lots of success with network games. There always seems to be a multitude of problems.I read somewhere that it was never thoroughly tested by Microprose.
