On the Civfanatics Unit Chart there is a column named "Upgrades To". What is this? Am I missing some game feature where you can upgrade units?

Sorry let me rephrase my question: What is the fastest way to get settlers to other islands separated by oceans in early game?

Except sailing only lets me build a galley, and they can't cross ocean.

If I have 1 of a certain resource (e.g. uranium from a mine), and another player wants to trade something for that uranium, am I trading ALL of my uranium to the other player? Can I still build things that require uranium?

On a map like Archipelago, what's the fastest way to get settlers to other islands early in the game?
