declaration of friendship is useless... the only thing it does is wreck your relations with other civs because your friend DoW on them for farting near their border... oh and they expect freebies but laugh in your face if you ask for a freebie.
if you're getting invaded, you ask your 'friend'...
cities are extremely weak and vulnerable to surrounds from infantry/armour units.
i don't bother with ranged land units... you're almost always better off storming in with your armour units and pummeling the city into submission in a single turn. meanwhile your air units can weaken the enemy...
doesn't the vote take 10 turns?
in which case, all you need to do is buy all the city-states you don't already own and declare war on the civ with UN. the city-states become locked, and most will vote for you.
as your city pops start to break 20, that final commerce point can start to provide over 150 gold per turn.
imo if you're playing on the island map, commerce is a no brainer (after you pick up the essentials from tradition/liberty).
i concur, treso.
if you're planning to play a standard game on the tougher difficulty settings, the fast worker and settler are essential to keep up with AI.
you need settlers to expand as early as possible, to ensure that you beat the AI to the best locations. then you need workers for tile...
it seems to me that the biggest factor for AI declaring war is when you have an inferior military.
if you have a weak military they'll go from 'friendly' to declaring war in the same turn.
the other stuff like wonder, land, friendly with their enemies etc leads to a denouncing - but i haven't...
does anyone else have a problem with AI being either too easy or rediculously hard to the point where you have to use exploits (navy, early conquest etc) to win?
i'm pretty new to civilization, but find that emperor is a bit too easy. especially on the island maps.
on immortal, you...
