The start location didn't look promising to me, so i decided to try my luck and venture southward. After 2 movements i saw quite a better spot, but to reach it i had to travel a little bit more. I finally settled Istanbul after 5 turns of wandering, SW-Sx4 of the original location. Totally worth...
GotM 165, Mongolia, Deity
Hello everyone! This is my absolute first as a GotM designer. Here's a special intro to celebrate it:
-------------
For generations, the small tribe of the Mongols had always been a nomadic people, living off what the land could give. But this lifestyle, although...
Gotcha. You're right, in non-industrialist civs the extra shield from the BG is burned.
That makes me reconsider my idea and look for other options. One might be settling NW (same result, but without wasting a BG) or simply in place.
I'm not sure i'll have time to play this one, but i will at least play the initial turns to see how the game could develop.
IMO, there seems to be at least a decent RCP3 by settling SW of the spot. Plus, we won't have to waste any worker jobs to get irrigation to the wheat.
Actually, when i logged in i was about to PM you to volunteer for designing a few games, not to "show you how to do it right" (if i was in need to feed my ego that way, i would be having far worse issues to be concerned about) but because i think that after so many games played it's time for me...
I settled Seoul in place and built a granary right away, then a settler for city 2. Cities were placed at RCP 3, with a pair of exceptions at RCP 4. The future FP city was built Nx3 of the capital, with the idea of moving the capital somewhere else in the future.
Research went for Pottery at...
I really didn't think i could pull a gold out of this. The score wasn't that great and my expansion was slower than usual.
On a side note, i would really like to know from Drazek what kind of sacrifices one should make to the RNG gods in order to receive so many leaders so early in the game...
Actually, no. I could always accomodate the growth of cities with enough jungle clearing, thanks to a massive workforce.
I left the size 12 cities at 4fpt/6fpt and produced a worker every time they were hitting the ceiling. I maxed out at 90 workers plus 50/60 slaves in the early industrials...
Well done PF, you beat me both in score and launch date.
Spaceship in 1275 AD with ~10900 jasons.
Ancient age very uneventful. RCP 3 + 6, canonical path to Republic. The Persians gobbled up all the wonders with the commercial trait, so no chances to trigger the GA before the advent of...
I don't think i'll be able to play this one, because of RL commitments, but in case i would definitely settle in place. IMO, getting rid of a pesky jungle tile for free and having a luxury right under our butts from the very beginning more than offsets the lack of coastal access.
Correct. I built the FP in Lyons (NEx4). I moved the capital mainly to have a better, more powerful, core of productive cities. And while the 400s of an army are a nice prebuild, the 1000s of a palace are much better :D
ANCIENT AGES
------------
I didn't see any reason to move away from an excellent coastal spot, so i decided for a strategy of settling in place, building the Forbidden Palace in a nearby city and moving the capital later. The initial build order was warrior -> settler -> worker -> Pyramids, but...
