    Random Events list

sorry to necro a thread from so long, ago, but just had this trigger: yes an explorer in a ship can trigger this event. (Also, it reveals *all* Oil, not just that plot). Also, Aluminium from AlumCo isn't sufficient to fulfil the Hostile Takeover Quest.

    Alternate tech paths

oh, good thinking with Golden Ages!

    Alternate tech paths

Resulting in a single square producing more :food: than an entire fat x eventually - obviously, something to avoid. No, my hope was to be able to reflect the possibilities of a society that went down a different path, not to break the game!

    Alternate tech paths

That there is effectively only one tech path gets dull, and limits the usefulness of telling vassal states what to research. But given Future Tech can be researched repeatedly, why not have other techs that can be repeatedly researched further down the ladder? It'd also be useful for civs that...

18 Civilizations on a Duel Map

Yes, this is my preferred setup. If you go donut (ocean) then it is even tighter, and every city is on the coast. If the speed is 'epic' then you are sweeping through cities faster than the AI can garrison them. Capturing cities quickly results in expenses growing intolerable, but the...

    Tips/guide to tech trading?

Something I learned a long time ago the hard way: the AI doesn't like trading techs that allow the construction of wonders, but if a wonder requires two techs, and the AI only has one, it'll do the trade. Thus if the AI has Sailing but not Masonry, it'll happily trade Sailing - but if you...

Comment by 'whitelaughter' in media 'Civ4 Mountain Boat'

The AI will use coastal forts for their ships even when not needed, and end their turn there, so it is possible to build forts on the coast to lure them in and then destroy their ships with land units. (No GGP or xp of course though).

    New combat mechanics suggestion

The way to fix the combat system is to reward interesting tactics, rather than punishing them. Frex in CivIII, mounted units and those in forts could damage passing units; so SODs could be wiped out by luring them past a line of forts. So that was removed...returning fighting to mere chance...

Technology is developed to be used - hunting is useless without something to hunt, agriculture without something to grow. Real world, I'm on the limestone plains in OZ: in the 19thC western doctors wrote glowing reports of the medical uses of the local grasses. There are some 60+ grasses that...
