I'm starting to see some of this as well. In my current game, I fought off a weak attack from Alexander early in the game only to have him come back 40 turns later, declare a surprise war and surround my most distant (but still developed) city with 6 of the top military units of the era. He...
Thanks, I'll check that out. I gave it another go last night and while it went slightly better, I was still repelled pretty easily. I think I'm just not used to the units the Ottomans require. The Janissaries are great, but siege units still feel useless to me until Atomic or so. Juggling...
Funny, I'm the opposite to this. I tend to be pretty peaceful, so I always go Classical Republic and rarely switch.
T2 I'm pretty lazy about. I usually go Merchant just because it's less of a pain to reach on the tech tree. I've actually gone straight from T1 to T3 many times because all of...
They actually play quite differently IMO.
Early game
Russia - Defense and Lavras
Canada - Builders and Settlers (you need some def against barbs, but way less)
City Placement
Russia - Spread far and wide. Place yourself on tundra at the start.
Canada - You want to be near tundra, but not...
I'm having trouble getting into the swing of the Ottomans on Deity. I spoke to some users briefly about it in the general chat and decided it was worth creating a full thread over so as not to derail the one we were in.
In the thread, it was suggested to me that I either archer rush or beeline...
Where do you all think the Ottomans rank? I've been pretty unimpressed with them so far since they're pretty much a vanilla civ until Industrial. I'm generally not a warmonger, but when I do go that route I tend to favour early aggression. The Ottoman bonuses simply come out too late.
I feel...
There are ways to get around it. An example off the top of my head would be X science per turn towards the tech you want for X gold per turn at a fixed rate, rather than a negotiable one. The other player benefits and you can't just trade back and forth for free.
[Edit]: That's actually...
If it was part of a larger expansion, I wouldn't personally care, but some people could see it as opportunistic or playing off the tragedy to make people more willing to pay.
Will many people think that? No. But if I'm an exec in a boardroom on a AAA title like civ, I'm telling them to be as...
Awesome!
I think the solution is making the game tougher later and easier at the start. The people that a pro barbarian just want some form of challenge. I personally want more challenge as well, but not at the expense of trying new strategies.
I think both parties would be happy if the...
I think the fire will actually make them less likely to add it to the game for fear of some sort of controversy. If they put it in another expansion, it could look a bit distasteful, like they're trying to monetize the tragedy.
I posted in another thread that a DLC without profits going to...
