@Ikael
I really liked your ideas about Carnival and Fazenda, a bit overpowered in modifiers but the ideas are coherent and different. And I guess Independence Dragoons would be the way to go too, but I like more the Voluntários da Pátria concept.
@Canabrava
Itaipu's another great one, I'm just...
Regardless the 'unfriendly' tone - I don't want to get involved - thanks for the links (and probably some content you helped to create there?). I was going to sleep at 9am when started to read like mad those wikipedia articles. I like to read geopolitics and history, but I confess my knowledge...
Wow, every time I feel bad about the heavy cons about our country I remember the talented people we have the luck to have here and feel better. Not only Emerald's and Semprini's initiatives but those analysis were very coherent and accurate, nice discussion going on here =]
Anyways, I'm here...
I guess what you ask requires a thesis on how open source really works out for software, which I don't have one or the will to make after writing that much now eh.
But see the case of mods, that's sort of how it goes: if we had all the tools needed to make a Spanish Civilization mod for...
Until documentation gets more (or some) useful you can try some alternatives like Cope suggests on his thread: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=386445
A more objective post (so not editing), @Kruelgor what Binky says is true, Blender is free and as capable (in some points even more) as the commercial ones. I've worked with some of these packages and right now Blender achieved a point where it amazes me. Its 2.5+ version has excellent tools and...
First sorry getting off the boat this whole week, my job and a disease worked together so I couldn't at least be with you guys through those turbulent waters :blush: and secondly Lemmy and CapBinky *phew* lot's of findings on these last 3 pages eh?! I guess Lemmy was the lost link we needed to...
Oh yeah, go Alfred go! xD The normal maps are great, you risked yourself with a so close shot, I can only imagine the normal view, it'll be perfect! And he's expressive already without animation, great work Andy :thumbsup: let's search for the holy grail (granny has it) so I can beat Alfred...
Right on that =\ I thought it as a productivity helper, but since new LHs will - at least seems that will be - tough to create and not so common I guess productivity isn't really an issue eh..
Anyway, just to update things about what we have been finding... we did some discoveries but right now...
Some time before sdk was released one thread like this was started on 2k's. We talked about a solution on this and came a bright idea on flagging some functions on Civ Lua API as safe, if we were Firaxis - so the game could accept the mod as MP/Achievements friendly if all the functions on that...
I wonder if wouldn't be a nice idea to borrow the anims from Firaxis. From what I've seen on another games modding forums, gr2 is a b*tch but it has a nice modular structure to load animations. If we get to know the names of the bones (I know we will) it'll be nice to use them =D
SamBC, I agree with what you've said there - things are changing and so should be our thoughts about modding. I didn't mod civ 4 (very little mod on civ 3) but has been modding other games, and this freedom feeling about modding other people/company works must be seen with attention really...
