You need to set your graphics settings to med or high. Either that or it's because you're in Modern era.
Units in modern era seem to be depicted by a single unit.
My LG DVD player wouldn't load the DVD. First DVD I had was slightly scratched... wouldn't load that one at all. Second DVD... I thought it didn't work... but after waiting 5 mins it my DVD player finally recongnized the DVD. Install was a bit on the slow side but it's all working now.

I normally have 2 or 3 def units per city plus one artillery unit. I normally stack my offensive units in my central border city depending on who I'm intending to attack next :D
At the end of the game I normally have a total of about 250-350 units.
I normally play on a standard size earth map with 8 civs. I'm still experimenting with the variety of civs but japan seems to be my favourite for the time being.
My previous game was regent level, marla's map with accurate starting locations. It was challenging and fun since I started as the...
Either download the windows version *and if you already did that just try and play the dos version in a window* or install some mouse drivers under dos.
I'm also playing marla's map with correct starting locations and I'd have to say I agree with you. It's a great playable map and so far it's a massive game :D
Right now I'm in 960 AD and most parts of the world are inhabited. The only places that aren't are the lower half of southern america...
1) yes
2) there isn't one. but keep in mind that 2 units normally give a smily so just put in 2 units. other than that just start in the newly "liberated" city by building a temple.
3) really depends on the situation. is it far off? is it in a strategic location? is it next to...
To play in a higher res I have to put keepres=1 in the ini file. When I do that and I set my windows res higher than the res the game defaults in the black outlining of the city name/population/growt/production box gets displaced. That's the only problem I had with the patch.
When I don't add...
OMG roflmao! lol that's one of the most hilarious things I've heard in ages! :D
... civilization. Superman saves the nation. Nsync hotline, Dragonball, alone in the dark and that's not all. rolfmao! :D
I play on a pII 300 64mb with an ATI rage something or other with only 4 mb and I can play in any resolution without any noticable additional lag *granted I didn't play above standard res long due to the patch adding those ghost boxes*
Now I play without any problems in the stadard...
Wasn't it: "...To die, to sleep;
to sleep, perchance to dream.
For in this sleep of death, what
dreams may come. Ay there's
the rub..."
or something close to that? I can't be sure but I thought the "for in this sleep of death" part was in there too :D
Damn Hamlet made me crosseyed...
I'm an uncle, I smoke and I'm wearing socks atm... all that and only 18 years of age. :D
I started playing back when I got an old 286 comp... I think I was 7 years old at that time. I've been hooked ever since :D
I play pretty much every type of game out there though... but there aren't...
Press the print screen button *it's located next to the Scroll Lock and Pause buttons* alt-tab out of the game and open your favourite graphics program *note that MS Paint will do the job just fine* and then paste. Ones you've done that save it as a gif or jpg file.
*Edit: Also in reply to...
They don't now but they sure did in the past. Personally I don't see them as my slaves but just workers. Workers that I capture I think of as spineless capitulators :D
