i just had a great game (16 civs, marla's world map) and i suddenly noticed that in about 1800 europe was crawling with cities (already from 1000 AD or so) asia was really thinly spread (only on the eastern and southern coastal regions ( no one had those tundra's ) ) and in africa pplz were only near the coast (except the zulu's in the southern part (about 1/3th from the bottom to top)) no one wanted that jungly area.. also, in america they didn't occupy the whole continent by the time europe discovered it.. they didn't want the jungle of south america, and they only took a lot of the good spots in the US.. canada and alaska was pretty clear too..

it really seemed like the AI sprawling was fixed, one of the best games ever.. there were like 2 tiles between cities in europe, and everyone there was pretty small (until the germans got their panzers :P ), the japanese stayed in japan and the eastern asian coastal areas. It was soo realistic, having no one in those uninhabitable areas. i just hope someone else also noticed this....

Perhaps you could put your save game up somewhere. I'd be interested to see the scenario of your game.

sorry, don't have it anymore :(

i finished that game 4 days ago, and since i don't have so much space on my HD left, i delete my old save games once in a while, since they take up so much freaking space...

but just try playing Marla's huge world map, with correct starting locations... it's great that the ai now doesn't settle in uninhabitable locations

I'm also playing marla's map with correct starting locations and I'd have to say I agree with you. It's a great playable map and so far it's a massive game :D

Right now I'm in 960 AD and most parts of the world are inhabited. The only places that aren't are the lower half of southern america, australia and indonesia.

I'm currently playing as the germans and am 6th from the bottom in score but I pretty much own mainland europe except for scandenavia and russia. I just finished 2 short wars v the french and v the romans. Won both in a turn *blitzkrieg!* :D Anyway the french then gave me all their colonies in the peace talks. I still have to have a little chat with the romans about their colonies though. The romans also razed a city I got from the french a few turns earlier *one of their colonies that is* so they did give me something that resembled a fight :D

Anyway it's an awesome game so far with the chinese having the largest territory of all civs. I can't wait till I get my panzers :D

That's weird. I'm playing a 16 civ game on Marla's World Map right now too, and am having the opposite experience. The AI has colonized everything. It really makes the game seem less realistic to see Siberia, Northern Canada, and Africa as densly populated as the traditional population centers. The only areas which havn'y been heavily settled by the AI yet are the Amazon jungle and Australia, which I'm assuming they havn't discovered.

It would be interesting to find out why the AI didn't colonize so aggressively in your game.

here's a screenie of a new 8-civ game, mid-beginning of the industrial age (1 turn from electricity) on marla's map..

it might also be because i changed a few things in the editor though.. will check it out..

but as you see only middle of North america is inhabited (by the original civs started there, no foreigners. Europe is cramping, but that's because it's extremely fertile there. Asia is nearly uninhabited, as is Alaska/canada/south america.. australia hasn't even been discovered (while the Ai usually does this around 400 AD
