How to get Civ4:BTS working on OS X Yosemite

ETA: well, looks like this already lives in its own thread. That'll teach me to use bookmarks :) Pretty old thread, but just reporting that this fix still works on El Capitan (OS X 10.11), but there's a few extra steps on account of new security features. Follow the steps in the first answer...

    Graphic cards questioning...

I'm not sure what you mean that they'd act like something else -- the Mac graphics cards are generally the same as their PC counterparts in terms of hardware. In terms of performance, the PC cards tend to do better, but that's only because the graphics drivers in Windows are generally more...

    Multiplayer for BTS Mac

Only Brad would know for sure, but my impression has been that it's either already in testing or soon to enter testing, so I don't think it'll be too long.

    Significantly More Difficult

Yeah, the AIs have gotten much less predictable in their tech paths. In vanilla they'd pretty much all follow the exact same tech path every game (usually running far up the monarchy/feudalism line and ignoring paper for about forever), but now they actually research different things sometimes.

    quantity of RAM questionning...

I've never seen Civ use more than a gig of RAM at once -- and that was only after running for a really long time. 2 gigs is probably sufficient, 4 certainly is, and anything more than that is overkill for 90% of people (and you'd know if you were one of the 10%).

    Significantly More Difficult

If you play on the higher difficulties, I think BTS is actually easier than vanilla. The AI is better in BTS, but to compensate, they toned down a lot of the mega-bonuses that the AI gets in the high difficulty levels. I usually play on immortal and usually was able to win about 50% of my...

[BTS] very bad game lag after loading save

Yes, this is fine early in the game, but when I'm in the middle of moving 30 units later in the game, waiting though multiple seconds of lag for each one isn't very appealing. :)

[BTS] very bad game lag after loading save

I've found that the one-turn jerkiness after loading is solved simply by going into any city screen. So, while it's slightly annoying, it only takes a couple seconds to fix.

[BTS] very bad game lag after loading save

I've started encountering an issue where after loading a saved game, the game lags horribly (takes a second or two to register mouse clicks and everything moves at 3-4 FPS). The lag occasionally disappears while I'm doing things (haven't noticed a pattern of what causes it to go away), and...

    Multiplayer for BTS Mac

The Mac and PC versions of Civ 4 are perfectly capable of playing with each other. The situation in your case is probably that your buddies running the PC version are running the latest BTS patch (3.19), which hasn't yet been released for the Mac since it came out so recently. As soon as the...

BTS loading saved games is slow

The problem seems to be limited to loading a saved game from an existing game. If I load up BTS and immediately load a saved game, it loads very quickly. If I then load a second saved game (even if it's the one I just loaded), it loads very slowly. However, if I first exit to the main menu...

BTS loading saved games is slow

I wanted to see if anyone else was experiencing extremely slow load times of saved games in BTS, at least relative to vanilla. On my 3 GHz iMac, the loading screen for saved games usually took about 3 seconds or so, even late into the game. On BTS, however, every single time I load a game, the...
