Ottoman Sekban Corps

Ottoman Sekban Corps 2024-04-15

This "ugly" unit may have been a widely recruited peasant mercenary sekban (osprey illustrations suggest that he was an officer or corps) widely recruited by the Ottoman Empire in the 16th-17th centuries. In the late 17th century, they became the leading musketeers in the Ottoman army. I found the most primitive image of this costume, with him holding a whip instead of an infantry weapon, and some copy notes indicate that he is a sekban or segban bashi (bachy), but Miller's THE COSTUME OF TURKEY does not mention any information about sekban.
