1984 scenario

New ideas for wonders:
Thought police HQ: decreases corruption in the city makes one citizen "happy"
Hate week: Unhappiness from the draft is eliminated for 100 turns
Minitru: decreases corruption for all citys
Minipax: increases chances of leaders appearing and units getting promoted, decreases unit costs for upgrade
Miniluv: makes two unhappy citizens "content" in every city on the same continent
Miniplen: puts a granary on every city in the continent.
Structure ideas:
Room 101: makes two unhappy citizens "content"
propoganda station: Makes one unhappy citizen "content"
Public school: increases citizen happiness
Field hockey field: Great leaders appear more frequently.

These ideas are contrary to what they did.

did this idea die? or is there another thread?...as soon as BfNY is done (v-1) Id be willing to get some people together on this...we shouyldnt have to make many units if any at all, given the tech level, there are lots of units to use...seems like a worthy idea...maybe

One thing is though, you may want to add a plot twist to the scenario then - the whole idea of 1984 is that in theory, the three powers wanted to keep the status quo - at the end, it was no longer about conquering or defeating one another, but to remain in a state of perpetual warfare. (Funny if you think about it - the US has pretty pretty much remained in a state of "war" although since WWII undeclared war, since the 20th century).

Either way, perhaps a more logical scenario would be if somehow one of the powers did suffer some sort of coup d'etat where the new regime is trying to conquer or change the world, while the other two powers try to contain it to regain the status quo.

my concept was Goldstein(player one) would try to reveal and destroy the lies of the Govt...Im thinking making you start in the NW of Africa, to explain why the 3 contries were always fighting there...maybe they were really at war, but with a 4th faction, Goldstein...Otherwise, I will make the scenario assuming that O'Brian was NOT LYING and that the world is in a state of constant war....

I would like to have this playable, there is a Miniluv wonder just going to waste out there, and units (like I said) will be no prob...and as that is usually where I lose track of my Mods(2 unfinished, cant find units)...I can make everything else (terrain, buildings, wonders, techs...etc...) so there is a good chance I'll throw something together...if someone wanted to help that would be great, and increase the chances of it acctually getting done in a timely mannor

also, Im gonna have to semi-read the book again for city names/locations

So you're going to set Goldstein as a real person (and not a lie as it was hinted at in the book) - interesting... It's interesting 'cuz the book says that even if it was two countries verses one, because of the sheer size and power, defeat is still impossible.

Also, a key in the idea is that it was all about the proles - maybe there's away to trigger tons of civil disorder or something - perhaps set the game with huge unhappiness settings, where the three powers are given wonders that'll neutralize the unhappiness - you as the fourth player have to stay alive long enough, while the three attack you (perhaps in the equatorial war zones), to research a "truth" technology that'll make the unhappiness-wonders all obsolete, thus plunging all three powers simultaneously into chaos - perhaps through that, you'll be able to set a challenge to take back the world, before the three superpowers try to reclaim order.

well retaking the world as the ficticious Goldstein seems a bit much...but establishing a 4th nation maybe?...Im thinking about making all 4 playable, but there is NO info...we will see...maybe this is just a bad idea...

and as far as Golstein being a "Lie" it really depends on how you interpret the book...there are only hints, no facts...I feel there is much room for creativity...As in the WotW scenario, it cant follow the book exactly, its "based" on the theme...

Well the idea is that once you set the truth out, break the hold that the three powers have, the control that they had would shatter. Think post-USSR or post-Rome - if somehow you convinced the proles aruond the world to revolt - it'd tear the three powers apart.

I was gonna quote that, but I wasnt sure it was accurate...

anychance of getting you to compile 2 sets of units? (all 4 factions will be the same I think...Maybe different units for Goldstein, resistors and whatnot)
its only gonna be 1 era, so Im thinking units chart like this
WAR UNITS:
Inf lvl1(small arms)----> Inf lvl2 (machine cunners?...maybe MU)-----> Inf lvl 3 (artillery or flamethrower/mortar guys)
Armored 1(the oldest wwII tank you can find)----> Armored 2(maybe the same Tank with inf MU)

Fighter (only 1 no upgrade)
Bomber(again only 1)
Cruise missle or Nuke
The oldest Transport you can find, and maybe a small battleship/cruiser...

Homeland Units:
again 3 levels, stats set for defence...
Minister of Truth---->Minister of (I forget this one...I dont even own the book, I have to buy it)---->Minster of Love
Im thinking guys in plain uniforms...like SW empire officers would do great, maybe the Mao king unit
Some kind of Rocket/missle silo/pad/launcher doohickey
Thought Police (again, just guys in uniforms)
Ideas
Junior Anti-sex league member(scout/worker?)

Prole(avail to all...Worker/scout)

make corruption VERY low, and money low...Production high, happiness Very low...
any building that produces happiness, also produces extra corruption, so development is both positive and negative
Victory points on the "Cape" for Goldstein's victory?...(Holding the "new Nation") the points would be aquired slowly, or need alot to win...not easy to do...and Goldstein should have strategic resourses noone else has, to stimulate war...(the 3 Nations can build units with the "war causing"(call it Goldsteinium) resource, but Goldstein cant, and the VP and the resource are on the same tile???can you do that??

increase the bombard of planes, to simulate the random bombings...and make Cruise missles "Hidden Nationality" to simulate the constant bombings, but no troops landing(as they are all busy in Africa)...

What does the Miniluv do?...its already made...does it have suggested stats?...

Finnaly, are you really willing to help me on this?...if not say so, its cool, but I would like to toy with a Stargate Mod if noone is helping with this (because when its done, I can already hear the debate about why it is "wrong" or doesnt follow the book, people really should loosen up)

another creative sree after reading the thread...

Room 101 increases production, but makes a person unhappy...

the 10 mins of hate(is it 10 or 2...I forget)...makes 1 unhappy person content in all cities(less likely to riot, via mind control) allows Spys (presumably for use on Goldstein)

one problem occurred to me...in the Book Goldstein is a "ghost" if he even exsists...if the 3 nations knew where he was, they would bomb him back to the stone age...Im hoping this technical over sight may be over looked by anyone who might play this Mod

{EDIT} everyone should respawn in the unlikely event of actually beating each other

I remember that atomic bombs thought used early on, were no longer used between the three countries as it could upset the balance - I suppose by keeping them with high costs you can prevent its constant use.

ok, Im putting this on a back burner until I finish SG-1 scenario...so if anyone wants to do the basics, I'll pick it up in a month or so(I wont play Civ4 until almost a year later than most, I dont buy the "first release" as it is often buggy)

Hi, i've read just about every book Orwell wrote and would be willing to help.

Maybe as a 'what if' you could put in an "animal republic" with 'animalism' government, Napoleon as leader etc... as a tribute to his other great work?

First off, lemme say [party] welcome to CFC

Now...
maybe if I hadnt scrapped this idea as being "To Arguementative"

people would rather gripe about why this scenario "Doesnt make sence" so I gave up on it...feel free to pick it up, and I'm willing to help...THere is a Miniluv wonder made already, and Im willing to make the others...lemme know if you decide to pick this up...Im too busy to concider it again

I just had another look at the book, and it seems a little unclear all around. The book has no 'ending' as such, but if a premise, or plot could be made for the scenario then there is certainly enough units etc to make it work. However, this book is not designed on the traditional premise of a fantasy story, that is, of an 'alternative' future [sic], but instead it is more of a warning for Orwell's own time. My point is, it is incompatible as a scenario. Thats just my pessimistic appraisal. I'll try and think up a workable premise, in which case there is more than enough material to put it together, but otherwise I cant see it working.

Random idea: One of those pet scientists actually stumbles on a uber-weapon, and the rulers of that empire, in a fit of enthusiasm, decides on using it. The other two powers fight back to maintain the status quo, while researching furiously to get the thing themselves.

Just an idea.

@the quiet thing...There are several options for the Civ ending...the book has no "ending" but leaves several options open...For example, whether Goldstein exsists or not is subject to debate...as well as the "war" between the 3 super powers

so what you have to do, is play with suspention of belief,,,and apply your interpritation of the book...My thoughts were:
Both are very real(for the scenario not the book, where they are just political tools) and so...

3 super powers, and a Goldstein civ with cities on the NOrth West of Africa (where most of the "war" occured in the book)
all of goldsteins units would have hidden nationality or invisiblity(and be less powerful in general), until later in the game. And I was going to attempt to make all the text in the game NewSpeak(that is a HUGE undertaking)

but again, like I said...I was gonna start this, but got nothing but debate...so firat you should read the thread...good luck, Id love to see this done...

I had the same thought about Goldstein, the Rebellion, some sort of 'reveal the truth' objective. It would work.

For the three major powers, Orwell states that the party members all believed in a final victory for thier powers. So, I would make Oceania and Goldstein/Rebellion as playable civs with separate objectives.

Btw, i had the same idea about doing it all in Newspeak... it would be awesome, but all of this debate would be summed up in one word- crimethink. That might make for some unhelpful text! :p

Can you make the wonders you mentioned?
