anybody ever played empire earth. That had a thing where you can scroll between 2d and 3d. different cameras of the game. That would be awsome in civ 4

You could change camera view. Seeing them from above all the way to level with them

Well, the scroll option is the same as the 3d option. It is just a different camera angle.

ok so just forget the last one, But what I meant is you can make it look 2d with a certain view

I am not playing Civ because of its "superior" look, but because of its depth and such. So I would rather see to stay 2d. Also modding will be easier in 2d.

Yes, Modding Would be eaiser. But I think its worth it.

ahh I'm indiferent to the camera angle feature.

As far as modding, it depends on who you ask. For me it will be mroe easy in 3d because I wont need that added step on setting a camera angle just so, having to make sure my render doesn't have any purple edges from antialiesing, etc etc. Most modders now already work in 3d and then just render a 2d image. Also the game depth has very little to do with how the sprite is renderd. Real depth comes from gameplay. I'm with sealman because I don't care if its 2d or 3d, I'm just preventing misconceptions.

no actually modding will be easier. unit creators already create their units in 3d but have to render and do all the lighting stuff, then make a storyboard and fill out a palatte. then they have to save the thing as a flc. the post creation time is the hardest and worst part for unit makers. instead this will probably attract more people since they don't have to go through all those steps to make a unit(s). but if you want to change graphics for terrain you may want to get use to 3d programs. it really depends on who you ask. it will be easier for unit creators but will be harder for graphics creators(terrain, buildings, resources, etc...)
