We've lost gems! Due to an unforunate event, the Roman Gems/Incense deal was broken (the Roman city hosting the gems flipped to Persia). I'll propose my 'remedy' once I get done listing the trades:

Persia
Tradeable Goods:
Gems
30 Gold

Trades:
Persia gives us Gems and 30 gold for one of our techs [Engineering or Monotheism].

Germany
Tradeable Goods:
35 gold

Trades:
None

Active Trades:
Peace Treaty expires in 5 turns.

Rome
Tradeable Goods:
Incense
56 gold
23 gold per turn

Trades:
1)They give Incense, 23gpt, and 50 gold in return for Monotheism

2)They give 3gpt and 50 gold in return for horses

3)They give Incense in return for Horses and 2gpt

France
Tradeable Goods:
16gpt
60 gold

Trades:
1) They give 16gpt and 60 gold in return for Monotheism

2) They give 5gpt and 60 gold in return for Horses

Japan
Tradeable Goods:
8 gold

Trades:
None

-------------------------

Now the question is, are we willing to give up Monotheism in return for the gpt and luxs? So, I'll propose two differant trades:

Without Monotheism
Persian Trade w/ Engineering
Roman trade #3

*We Get/Lose
2 Luxs
30 gold
-2gpt

With Monotheism
Persian Trade
Roman Trade #1
French Trade #1

*We Get/Lose
2 luxs
140 gold
+39gpt
Monotheism

*Anything Marked in red we lose

First option - let's hold on to Monotheism for a bit longer.

Engineering is already on the table - I'm surprised is hasn't gotten to Persia yet. We can really use those luxuries - they help to keep our entertainment expenses low and our research rate high. Having 3 luxuries will greatly help our treasury out, as we can keep some of our GNP as cash. This will increase the rate at which cities can grow, as we cash rush projects instead of waiting for long-term development.

If we don't keep the Roman Incense we run the risk that someone else will trade for it.

If we only pay in Gold, Rome wants 10gpt and 4 gold for Incense.

It may be worth taking this deal to keep the Incense for ourselves and use the next 20 turns to connect up our 3rd source of Wines so that when this deal expires we will be able to trade Wines for Incense.

I would prefer to hold onto Monotheism for a while longer, we need to break those pre-builds or we will lose the Knights Templar.

Get the Gems for Engineering.

I also notice that always renegotiate deals is off. This may explain why when the previous Roman deal expired 3 of our cities rioted without apparent warning.

I'll try to remember to "instruct" the DP to turn that option back on. Try to remind me incase I forget though.

I'd go for the first option. I personally prefer to have "always renegotiate deals" off and just note in CivAssist that a deal is about to expire (or has just expired) and renegotiate it myself. In regard to the Roman expiration, I believe Rome came and said, "This was our deal. We don't want to continue it."

If renegotiate deals is off, we should not have recieved a notification. The deals just over, nothing said about it.

That's what it does when it's on, is notify you and allow you to change the deal to keep it going.

I don't think the popup even happened, at least in my turnset it didn't appear when the Persian deal expired.

With renegotiate deals on, you get the opportunity to renew the deal during IBT. This is seen as a negative by some however because you don't have the ability to see what everyone else has. BTW I thought, apparently incorrectly, that the setting follows the local player's preferences, not the game's preferences.

ditto, those deals are the best. I would like to suggest we don't trade horses to anyone (except Persia) in the near future. Giving horses to them will only strengthen their millitary.
