I reckon it's time for an exploration-poll!!!

This is the situation:

We've got 2 units both with 2 movement-points per turn each: a chariot and a horseman. There are a few things we can do with these units, we can use them to explore and we can let them sit around a bit in the direct neighbourhood of our newly found cities to kill any enemy that comes too close for comfort. ;)

A few things that can be kept in mind:
- The parts of the island we can explore now may not be too big, if the parts are small the units can return rather quickly to the cities to "defend" them.
- The B-region (to the south) is probably quite close to the pole and not too much land should be expected down there
- If the units start exploring the two regions they will encounter units of other civs and therefore defense of the cities itself will be not very important

So people what will it be?
Do we want both units to explore region A or maybe B? Do we want one unit to explore region A and the other region B? Or do we want one unit to explore one of the two regions and the other units to stay around to protect the settlers?

To minimize the number of options I prefer the president to decide what unit will perform what action: if it is chosen that one unit will eplore region A and one will explore region B the president may decide if the chariot or the horse will go to A or to B. Of course you may post suggestions about that in this thread. :)
 
One to A, one to B. Find out the full extent of our continent
ASAP.
 
One A one B gives us the option of building the capital in the 3/4 bonus polace 8which is best, see starlifters excellent explaination in the turn thread), and then deciding if we really want to second town in one of the already discussed places..... we will simply know more about the A region and who knows what lies there....
 
It looks to me like the coast by the whale at "B" may be turning northwards again - the land to the "3" (South East) of the whale is most certainly land. "Best" case would be that the sea is actually a convoluted inlet, and the land north of where the SSC will be is connected. If this is the case, it is easily settlable prior to mapmaking - and even better, it allows our caiptal (SSC) to be in the geographic centre of our empire, and not stuck out the side.

I think its worth confirming or otherwise this, so vote for one to each section.
 
we're not that close to the south pole that exploring to the south, for city sites or threats, will not be worthwhile. There is also a fair chance that the southern promontory will extend east or west when we get down there.

One unit in each direction for me
 
The entire explored area is 11 tiles from top right to bottom left, and this equate to around 16 mm on my screen resolution. The minimap shows another (around) 30 mm to the pole (on the SW diagonal), suggesting that we have another 20-22 tiles between us and the pole (or am I being a bit too 'creative' with my mathematics! :D )

Close inspection of the main map suggests that to the "East" side, the land curves both south (the bright colors) and north (the shape of the tile by the whale). It may be wishful-thinking on the size and extent of the lands in this area, but even if they are small, then the horsie should be able to explore quickly, and head back along the south coast to the west anyway.

I have to bow to anyone mad enough to measure their monitor screen with a ruler and accept that it may be best to send one each way. I'd still like the other tiles in the proposed city 2 radius to be uncovered before we plonk a city down there though. That's the square NW of the western settler btw, so we'll have to uncover the five tiles missing from the radius there. :)

The Chariot can easily do this on his way West.
 
Explore A&B, while moving Settler 2 to found the SSC/capital and Settler 1 roads north one tile, then founds the 2nd city on the same turn as the SSC.
 
I'll agree with the majority here, send Chariot along A and the Horseman along B.

OK, 19 votes casted so far and 15 for the option of one unit to A and one unit to B. The poll has been open long enough for everybody interested in the game to vote so I think it's time to close it and send a unit in each direction.
