So Humankind is making the move backwards first. Olmecs. Hunters. Mammoths. Neolithic tribesmen.
I love to watch this war unfold. But let be cynical. They included Mohenjo Daro as a starting Civ, which has been dated to around 4.000 b.c. or new Stone age date; when basically people began to settle again...
So basically they are faking Prehistoric time in a shallower time-line... a linear time-line...

WATER IS 90% OF THE PLANET. NOT LAND. WATER!

Let's pretend eras are not that linear after all... but circular... as ice ages... a mixture of player advancement and climate change... who will break the linearity first?

MESOLITHIC ERA: (Indian scriptures define this timeframe as the Golden Age)

Atlantean giants. /can not grow much in number/ nomads/ scientists.
Humans - all nomads, hunter gatherers/ can grow in numbers.
Snakes everywhere.

Humans can build caracoles, ancient floating homes. (they are believed to have existed in the distant past in the Assirian - pre-babilonian region, also believed to be the garden of eden, now submerged, near the Arab peninsula. - frequent floods, not just 3- 5 meters, but 200 meters... - had them prepared).
They were prey.
200 meters sea level rise, 100% polar ice cap melt, means we are already something like 190 meter UP ABOVE THE ANCIENT SEA LEVEL.... dig up doggherland...

So, starting from mesolithic era this time around 450.000 b.c, the fauna will be sabertooth, probably some nasty dinosaur still alive somewhere in the jungle, giants, and small human ancestors.
But the giants are also ancestors. Nomads not yet civs, but species, lots of human species.

We have indian tales of giants being killed. We have Greek tales of giants.
Israelithic tales of giants roaming the Earth. Let not fool ourselves. There were giants.
Humans were not only hunters. They were being hunted down.
Only with knowledge and numbers, the giants could be erased from history.
Well except for Bigfoot obviously.

Time must be non linear. Time from mesolithic era will not advance every turn.
Assimilation of giants knowledge through killing will advance an era.
Killing-assimilation of another human species will advance an era.
building a community project with other tribes will advance an era.

Between the MESOLITHIC ERA and the NEW STONE AGE ERA, there should have been something like
2-3 ICE AGES, where the habitable zone would shrink to the equatorial strip.

Frostpunk cold-hot mechanic. Exes will bear a temperature reading.
Human can enter the cold region for hunting resources for community projects.
reapair in canoe or caracoles on the coast to survive extreme cold.
Only coastal settlemetns could be in the cold where shells, fish, seals, algae can be found.
Sea needs verticality. Canyons. Different water levels as ice builds up before releasing destruction.
Verticality. As glacial period and warm periods shifts the water mass, low land get submerged.
Other re-emerges. Land bridges.
How do people survive? Mostly don't. Early game over.
Floating caracoles homes will swarn you when you get caught in a byblical flood.
You can not move, just wait to be moved around and hope not to end up in Antarctica...

Lay lines mechanics.
Monuments must reflect the sky.
The center of the map will be the location of the Pyramid.

Only one location will be allowed to build it. That's it.
Same goes for the temple of the Sun and early buildings connected to the cults of the Sun.
cult of the Scorpion unlocks Gobekly tepe. These buildings unlocks era advance for all players.
All players must aid in the construction.
THESE CONSTRUCTION IS COMMUNITY BUILT, NOT BY ONE, ALL PLAYERS MUST AID.
obviously the winner with most aid will gain something in return...
When Pyramid it is built (around 4.000 b.c.) all nomads tribes will be allowed to settle their first city.

This early species would be Neanderthals, devisonians, hobbits, modern humans.
Depending on the continent on which your people will be, when the new stone age comes,
you will be allowed to choose your base civ traits, at the beginning of the new stone age.

If you get stuck on Austral-asia, you will be forced to play an austral-asian civ.
If you know you want to play Egypt, you'd better defend your position....

After Pyramid, these tribes-civs will be available.

Rules will change also.

At this early stage civs will have no borders but walls.
No districts. No traders with nonsense road paths!
ALL UNITS CAN BUILD ROADS, FORTS. WELLS.
Only roads, duns, forts. War is constant. No war declarations. No peace declarations.
Technology must be stolen through conquest, art, or divination, by advancing the ancient cults.

Conquered civs must respawn at least three times with a free settler.
Every civs start with navigation skills.
Nomads can play the whole game as nomads. Thriving through Art, commerce, plundering, war, technolgy trade. trade nodes occupation. The need no permit to enter whatsoever territory once border expansions will be set, namely with the birth of government types. They can achieve victory in many ways.
They can destroy every civilization borders like plunders. The more free space they have, the more power they have. Nomads are strong. Giants were nomads only.

A Nomad civ can settle down to become a border nation at any point in the game. Not the other way around.
Purely nomadic civs like Roma, Yazidis, Inuit, will not be able to become border nation and should be stronger than any other nomadic tribe.
Nomads capital works like a city state but is mobile, on land and water, she eats up borders but lay no borders herself...

NEW STONE AGE KICKS IN! 4.000 B.C> LINEAR TIMEFRAME>TODAY.

Some more tribes suggestions welcome...

Thoughts?

As a side note, as in a chess game where the engines dance, there is no need to always go for a kill... sometime is wiser to let the opponent live...
