I am currently doing some five-city-challenge games. So far I have completed as Spain and Byzantines. Now trying the Incas.

Which civs is the best for 5CC in your opinion :scan:

Depends on what kind of 5CC you're talking about. For space or diplo, I think Byzantines are the best. For 20K, Spain or Babylon. For conquest, Ottomans, Vikings, or Germany. For Domination, I have no idea.

Both games completed so far resulted in 20k victories. Could have pulled of a diplo victory too...

Oh, I almost forgot - I have enabled all "classic" victory conditions, so consider that I want opinions on all of them :)

The egyptians are good for a 5CC-OBC-AW-catfight.

OBC - that is One Built City right? You can't build settlers. Capture your remaining 4. Are you alllowed to pop a settler?

I've never popped a settler when using that restriction, so I don't know what I would do. Strictly since the settler builds a city one should disband him :(

 Is it allowed to disband your first settler? Scouting around with one worker to pop a settler should be interesting (even for the most hardcore civers here).

Well, a post to awake some of you:

Traits, there must be some thoughts on the traits. Which are good, which are bad for a five city challenge?

Commercial: useless (?).
Expansionist: very nice for contacts and the free AA tech pop.
Seafaring: good for contacts.
Militaristic: good for conquest.
Scientific: great for low to medium level where you are able to do research. And the cheap scientific improvements.
Agricultural: good, but not essential coz you are limited to 5 cities.
Religious: nice for halp-priced "religious" improvements.
Industrious: 5 cities only >> useless.

Any thoughts?

Depends on the level. I havent beat diety yet. I only tried once. If it was me playing at DG level, which I am OK at, then I would want either scientific, seafaring or possibly expansionist. But honestly I might not be able to keep up in tech with only five so that might reduce the utility of scientific. At that point I might want religious. However, I have been meaning to try Portugal.

How could you ever dominate with only 5 cities? You need 66% of the world's land and pop for that.

Now for fighting, C3C Cossacks would be very cost effective here.

Monarch/Emperor. I have to crawl before I can walk. Did I mention domination? Can't recall that.

Cossacks, yes... I believe that the Russians (sci/exp) would be a nice 5cc civ.

Would you be able to build enough Berserkers to use Vikings? :scan:

;) Vikings are a bit down on the list. I'll try the UN and 20k variants first - I can't see the Scandinavians there...

Good to see you posting in the Conquest forum again dg! :)

I've been lurking :scan: -- No, I doubt the Vikings will be good for UN
victory :mischief: :hammer: .

You lurking - I can't believe my own eyes ;)

I'll try the Vikings later. My goal is to try 5CC for every (C3C) civ.

They might be. I abandoned the Inca game and decided to go for Russia or Sumeria. Maybe I'll try the Dutch.

And oh, I forgot: continents, 70% water.
