7.5 Difficulty

I think there are a couple ways:

1. Play as a bad civ such as Japan or India.

2. Keep rerolling starts until you are in the middle of a jungle. The fact that you have to research and chop down jungles to get lux is such a massive hit, I feel like its 7.5 maybe by itself. Especially if you dont have a jungle civ.

U think India is weak? rofl. Elephants crush most of AI on Immortal.

I'd rather have carthage with their elephants AND harbors. Not to mention quadquarimes. I think the first time i moved up to immortal, I played as carthage and got a domination win with the 100+ happiness achieve. I've never liked india in civ 5, but maybe i need to take another look

Try this mod:
Really advanced setup
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=126959669&searchtext=really+advanced+setup

You can add some perks to you or remove the extra AI settler.

You can also pick a CIV that fits the the map better or worse.
Polynesia + Pangaea + immortal = 7,5
Morocco + sandstorm + diety = 7,5
Inca + highlands + diety = 7,5
etc...

Can I use this to play on Diety, but take away the massive start benefit in units and tech the AI has, so I play only against their permanent bonuses rather than that + a huge head start?

Really Advanced Setup mod is a must unless you want to spend eternity re-rolling troll starts. (starts you realise suck after 20+ turns of exploring.)

+1 for 7.5 difficulty.

In particular I'd like the unit production that Deity has with the tech speed of Immortal. The AI needs more units or better AI in managing them, but it doesn't need a tech boost over Immortal IMO.

I've stopped playing because Immortal is too easy and Deity is just too annoying (too many constraints on play-style).

Deity- Tiny Islands Difficulty level 7.5

The AI has absolutely no concept of Naval Warfare

This seems like the answer immortal where things are not in your favor and deity where things are in your favor will create a balance between the two.

I'd say a tiny islands game as Suleiman on deity would be easier then most other games on immortal. Korea or babylon next to a mountain on deity.

Or Immortal Morocco start bias off starting off in the tundra without any resources near you.

Venice on a the lakes but no oceans map.

Answer: 3 extra civs on same size map, cut number of city states to equal number of civs.

Guaranteed 7.5.

Tiny island is very easy on Deity. You can just go fast frigates and take all capitals...
And on Immortal you can usually get your neighbour with composites.

It is easier for some civ, harder for others, but still it works.

Yeah, I think Diety with only one settler per AI would be ideal. I'll have to try that mod. I've been wanting something like this for a while. I'm in the same boat... usually win on Immortal, not always, but if I focus, or it's a good start, then it's 100%. That being said, the advantages the AI get going from Immortal to Diety make it *less like playing against a skilled human*. I'd *much* rather play on King against a skilled human than on Diety against the computer, but sadly, I don't have a slave to use as my Civ opponent. ;-)

I don't know what the fix would be. Giving them lower tech costs later on in the tech tree, or coding them to actually optimize science more effectively. Something. Either way, it is obvious that the issue cannot be solved by fudging around with their starting bonuses, since the issue is their late-game performance.

Increasing their bonuses by era could help. Then they wouldn't need such a headstart.
