8+ Players in SMAX

Just a question that I was wondering about a while back... Does anyone know if it's possible to have more than 8 factions in a game of SMAX? I'd really like to play a game on a huge map with all 16 factions. As it is a huge map with 8 factions take too long to really get going, and I'd like to "toss it up a bit" as it were. Anyone have any info as to weather this is possible or not?

I always thought there were only 7, and up to 14 with the addition of SMACX.

Well, they could re-programme it or someone could reverse engineer it.

But, realistically, it is not possible for the common or garden SMACer.
