Your small adventuring troupe just finished camping in a refreshing wooded meadow just off an unmaintained countryside road, made of packed dirt and flanked with pebbles, grassland, and trees, having had breakfast of the provisions whose acquisition from the last village was a mostly pleasant affair of singing and dancing, spoiled only by the most vocal of the selfish. You’re now walking along the road again, expecting the village of Oddbriar to be less than a day away. Oddbriar, of course, is the adopted home and domain of self-styled Duke Aldrix the Younger, uncle of Edelay by her father’s side, who you know through her constant chit-chat.

The sun’s almost at its highest, and the cool, breezy air of the morning’s giving way to heat and stagnation. You were just about to have lunch with what was left of the meals you prepared this morning, but you notice something strange over the distance through the trees. From where you stand, you can tell that it’s probably a makeshift barricade, made of piles of earth, wooden stakes, half-buried crates, rocks and small boulders. You can also make out the shape of a lone goblin wearing some leather armor sitting on a stool on the road, seemingly bored and playing with the dust with his spear.

[Perception] Though they’re somewhat difficult to make out through the thin trunks and low-hanging branches and vines, Aelorn notices a bunch of other goblins sitting around and eating under the trees near the barricade. They seem to be feeding and playing with a large, red beetle, probably of the fiery variety.

From the last place you stayed, you’ve heard rumors of goblin bandits who’ve recently entered the region, whom the villagers proudly claimed that they’ve driven off recently in a series of light scuffles. The goblins are said to be not a particularly violent sort who prefer intimidation to fighting, though they are reputed to be persistent despite their general cowardice. However, most travelers give in to their demands rather than risk fighting the lot of them, since armed cowardly goblins are still armed. The villagers noted that it is odd that Aldrix, who’s made a name for himself locally as a superb leader and ex-adventurer, hasn’t tried to clean up the mess in the many ways he could have; in fact, they haven’t heard from Oddbriar in a while, and they fear that Aldrix is ill or, gods forbid, worse.

The goblins haven’t noticed you, or so it appears.

Spoiler OOC :
Hey guise we'll be using this dice server for rolls. Game name is heroic-cycle-cfc, password is thundercats. Use the comment box to link your mechanics things with the die rolls; rolls without comments or with senseless comments won't be counted for anything.

Yes, I intended for the first thing you do to be some sort of encounter, the nature of which will be determined how you want to act.

This initiative system will be used unless it proves to suck.

Dungeon Master's judgment overrides any rule all the time.

When you do anything that has mechanical part attached to it, declare the mechanics in [brackets] with easily Ctr-F-able words that are also in the dice server for rolls, if applicable. All talk must be in “quotes;” all thoughts, if you must, in italics.

There will be no Out Of Character (OOC) discussion outside of spoilers. Spoilers come at the very end of posts.

Current players: oyzar (Edelay), Seon (Aelorn), Methos (Ash)

I said I'd introduce your characters, but I decided otherwise and would rather let you either share your sheets (which I suggest, as this is a cooperative game) or introduce yourselves in prose if you would let lurkers in on the things.

Feel free to PM me questions and I will answer the best I can. Probably overlooked a few things since It's 1 AM here and therefore I'm sleepy.

Oh, and finally I suggest using MSN/the other thread for cooperative planning if you need it.

"These are clearly the bandits we have heard about." Edelay whispers to the others. "Let's sneak through the forest to the north of the road and take care of the lonely one on the road before others notice we are here." [Stealth]

"Good idea, I will lead the way. By the way, I can see some goblins toying with a red beetle under that tree over there. We should be careful as we take out that goblin. I don;t want any more trouble." [Stealth]

Spoiler :
Shoot. That +7 bonus in dice server is actually +9, FC

Ash crouches low in order to keep his body hidden as he silent moves through the forest to gain a better position to the north. [Stealth]

Spoiler OOC :
I'm thinking we should sneak straight north first (near the A1, B1, etc. ) and then move to the forested square just north of the goblin near the barricade.

OOC: I suggest we all focus our attacks on one opponent to bring him down quickly. A wounded opponent does just as much damage as a fully healed one, so having a bunch of wounded opponents isn't good. Let's focus on the crossbow wielding goblin first. With any luck, we bring him down before he can attack us.

@FlyingChicken: I assume we get a surprise round?

Aelorn prepares himself to lunge from I1 to J2 (Daft Strike) and throw a shurikan and surprise the goblin wielding a crossbow

OOC: I'm at work now, so can't access some stuff (work firewall), but when I get home (within the hour) I'll roll everything. So basically what you are saying is when we roll go ahead and roll damage as well, so that if we do hit, the information is already there. No problem. Is there anyway to add modifiers to the dice roll, or do we just keep stating them in the comments section?

Edelay is sneaking behind the others

. Seeing as the goblin is nearly dead she unleashes a Vicious Mockery[Vicious Mockery] with light help from her lyre to finish it off.

"You should stop playing at being bandits, it doesn't work very well when you are dead. You fight so bad that I would fight better than you with arm and legs tied. There are no words in common or elvish that describe how much you suck. Is your name perchance Target Practice?"

Spoiler OCC :

OOC: How did you come up with the numbers for seons attack? His attack is 3d6 + 4 damage. He doesn't get any bonus from strength. Not 1d6+2d4+4+2(and i don't see how that added up to 20 anyways but whatever). He also get +9 to hit (2 CA 4 dex and 3 weapon bonus).

Also why did Killfire chose a rogue? It is a bit redundant with another of the same class (since he haven't appeared yet, maybe he could change it?... He should have talked to us first.

Spoiler for OOC :
So what happened with this game? Killfire have been online on the forums but haven't posted...

Aelorn charges at the goblin wielding a spear with a shortsword while it is still shocked.

Spoiler :
OOC:SOmeone help me how todo damage rolls :S. I won't be able to read PHB for 2days :S

Seeing Ash take such heavy damage Edelay gets over to help out[Move to K3]. She starts singing and strange music comes out of her lyre:

Somewhere deep inside,
Somewhere deep inside me,
I found ... the child I used to be
And I know that it's not too late
Never too late...
[Majestic word on Ash]
The magic filled words rejuvenates Ash and he is able to sidestep out of the fray to face the monsters once more[to L3]. Once Ash is in the clear the music abruptly changes, turning more offensive to drive up the fervor of her allies and cause the goblins and the beetle great mental anguish:

Allright
Are you ready ? It's not a game.
I chant so much, I turn you insane.
Wanna wanna get'cha, gonna gonna get'cha
Messing up the area
YEAH!
[Shout of Triumph hitting the goblins in K4 and M4 as well as the beetle]

The beetle can't understand the words but even it feels the power of the words as pain bites through it's mind[17 vs fortitude, if it hits 8 damage] is compelled forwards to the spot Ash just left[Beetle to L4]. The goblins likewise feel their mind slipping into rage as the words drive them closer to insanity[21 and 22 vs fortitude, 8 damage each].

Spoiler music :

1:50 to 2:24 of http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u9odvl3tfEU for melody

Spoiler occ :

kill fire: don't post ooc chat together with the rest, put it in spoilers, also why do you stay in the bushes? Much better if you come over as well to help with flanking so you and Seon get the sneak attack bonus. Also if you come on msn or other IM it will be so much easier to cooperate..

Spoiler ooc :

@ Killfire: you never told me you didn't have msn. Anyways communication by pm is very slow for this game, so if you could get some IM that would be nice.

@ Methos: it is 5, I told you earlier you would heal 12, which is 7 + 5.

Spoiler occ :
I have no idea why it have the thunder keyword, but roleplaying that is quite a bit harder than doing psychic so forgive me this minor glitch. I didn't know I couldn't push creatures towards me... Also reading the players handbook(page 271) leads me to to belive that i roll to hit for each monster but only roll damage once:

"Multiple Attack Rolls but One Damage Roll:
When you make a close attack, you make a separate attack roll against each target in the area of effect, but you make a single damage roll that affects all the targets."
