I'm trying to work out an effective starting strategy for myself, I've been wokring on it for a few days and I've managed to come up with something, but when I found this infomative web-site, the way I played civ changed forever, so I was thinking that maybe some of you forum-goers might be able to help me change my views even more.
Anways heres my starting strategy right now, I've managed to win the game by about 500 BC (I bet thats pathetic..) on King if I'm on the same land mass as all of the other AIs.
1) I don't found my capital city until 3500 BC, During the time I have my settler(s) I use them to epxlore for huts, and use whatever comes out of the huts to either buy horsemen in my cities when I found them, or use the units to explore for huts,
2) When I get 10 units, or 3500 BC comes along, I found my city, One of the things I've noticed is that even in the higher difficulty it can be quite easy to keep up with the AIs in technology + gold, Huts once again from this point assist me in catching up on the AIs
3) For AI Handling, I make a peace treaty, and basically keep on demanding tribute, this is my main source of income for the early part of the game, its gotten me quite a bit, When an AI starts getting annoyed and declares, I capture one citiy ASAP, make a cease fire, demand tribiute and leave them alone for a few turns, then see how much they are willing to pay for a peace treaty, if its above 50 gold, I accept, and go back to the beginning for managing the AIs, any AIs that refuse to offer a cease fire, or refuse to pay me for a peace treaty, will eventually end up dead
4) Once each of my cities have produced 1 defender unit and 3 horseman, the cities start producing settlers, Out to found new cities and quickly get those units in
Once I have about 30 cities, each roughly the same size due to the aggressive expansion (*sigh*) I Found all of the settlers still standing, and use any extra settlers to imporve the landscape, and this point, I convert from Monarchy to Republic, and end all wars.
5) Ancient/Medival Wonders I aim for:
Leonardos Workshop, Issac Newtons College, Copernicus's Obersatory, King Richards Crusade (for my production city..)
Leonardos Workshop and King Richards crusade goes into produciton city, produciton city helps make a science city using the other two wonders
6) By the discovery of Tactics/Communisium, I immediately switch to Communism, and resume my "Demand everything off them and only go back to peace if they offer me gold" thing to help fuel my Conversion of troops, if I didn't get leonardos Workshop (only happened once)
If they declare War, I do not sign a Cease fire unless they offer me 400 gold, if they don't.. they die
7) If the game should carry on further, by about 1 AD, I immediately revert back to Republic, Start using my science city to its fullest to try and widen the gap in advances, and delcare war When I discover computers, nd have built the Unites Nations and Women's Suffarge(sp?) (in my production city)
8) industrial/modern (advance level only) wonders I aim for
United Nations
Women's Suffarge(sp?)
SETI Program
Manhattan Projek
Statue of Liberty
Bachs Cathedral
Michelangelo's Capel
Hoover Dam
9) As soon as I start reasearching future tech, I switch to Fundamentalism, and finish off anybody thats still standing (if anyone..)
Well thats it.. Basically.. *shrug*
I bet it sucks, and thats why I'm posting it, so please, give me advice. (just no flames)
[note:] I changed this paragraph..

[Its getting hard to think straight with this blocked up nose.]
