Hi all.

I haven't posted here much at all, however i remember Civ 1 on the Amiga, and i remember it consuming months of time, being all most all i thought about.

Ive followed it ever since, and am now enjoying the latest 'total realism' mod hugely, well done on that.

My thougts on civ 5? I love the graphics, and cannot understand why others criticize them. Perhaps some things are not polished, but I'm sure they will be pleasing to the eye when it comes out, just as I found civ 4 to be.

One unit per tile - I am so looking forward to this. Thats the feature more than anything that has sold me on this version. Again, thinking back to history line 1914 - 1918 on the Amiga and similar titles. Its a change from what we are used to, but one, i trust, that will really bring out the military decisions in civ to make them heightened - not just the old stack of doom.

Removing espionage pleases me as i found it to be boring and so something i didnt do - like a form of optional micro managment. I felt the same about the total war series.

Religion? Meh. It was interesting as a side line, didnt require micro managment and perhaps could have been implemented better in this one, but what are Firaxis gonna do, give the religions different traits and risk being beheaded incase they have offended someones God? As it is religion in civ 4 is a bit bland, and given the tactical situation being so finely balanced (What with having to choose which unit occupies which tile to get the bonuses and other one tile per unit considerations), religion is one less thing to worry about.

Overall, I cannot wait. Need a beta tester?

I have a feeling espionage will be in an expansion pack.

removing religion I feel is a mistake, but I see their point, and the change isn't necessarily bad. The dev's main gripe was alliances were too based on religion. But this resembles real life as far as I'm concerned. Yeah it was annoying they always hated you because of your religion. But considering my country is hated because of its religion today shows how accurate that is.

I'm ambigious about the change to one unit per tile. It could cause so much unnecessary mirco-management or annoyances, but we'll have to see how it turns out before I can really judge. The stack of doom was indeed a bit lame, esp late in the game when your position could already be won but just waiting to finish.

Espionage I don't care about. Always hated how the AI seemed to spam spies in every game (medieval, Civ IV). Although this could be a harder loss now that tech trading is out.

Religions we're my favorite quirk in Civ IV. Sure it really didn't do much, but obsessive as I can be, I loved trying to get all 7 religions in all cities. Also it just added real depth to the game. Who can think of history and leave out religion.

Cancelling tech trading I don't like. But it doesnt matter that much I think. But it's annoying that you can't catch up anymore or make tons of gold on techs the AI doesn't have yet. But if gold buys you tiles I can imagine, tech trading is out.

@disgustipated, I doubt that any country in this world is being hated for it's religion. It might have something more to do with what that country does.

Religion needs more decisions as in EU3. And more control. I want to form my own religion - or choose from a list of religions - Like Norse Mythology.

Agreed on all counts - including the beta tester ;)

I also go back to Civ1, and played Historyline 1914-18 and Panzer General obsessively as well.
I believe the new 1 unit per tile system will be a real improvement - can't wait for the game to come out. Only problem is: the anticipation is making me unhappy with Civ4

I liked religion in Civ 4, it was a good way of allowing peaceful players to still get out of their cities and interact with the rest of the world. I'll get over it if, as they suggest, it's gone to make way for a better diplomacy system.
