Almost never, although I sometimes like to play a fast game on a tiny map and I use it then. To better my shield production... mine stuff, be patient, and get a good start.

I never play with AP, its too unrealistic for my liking.

It shouldn't be taking 30 turns to build your first settler.

I tend to leave my capital to grow up to size 3/4 before i start building my first settler, by which time i will hopefully be making 5-7 shields per turn -> 5/6 turn settlers. In the meantime, you should be building warriors (for exploration purposes) and maybe a granary if you're planning on pumping out lots of settlers from your capital.

Make sure your'e optimising all the squares that are being worked in the city radius. As a rule of thumb, this means mining all the bonus grassland, and regular grassland squares, as well as irrigating the squares with food bonuses.

I wonder which is a best civilization to play as when someone intend to play with Accelerated production on?

Something inudstrious, probably. Commercial may be the other trait, so France? Or Seafaring, so Carthage?

I always play with AC on, it takes to long otherwise and if i don't i can never get tanks :(

AP ruins the game. It makes the game unrealistic and destroys game balance. Now, if they had raised the unit support and fixed a lot of other things, AP might be worth playing with.
The only exception is multiplayer scenarios where it can give a more intense game.
I don't think commercial would be a good trait for AP since you will reach a 4-turn tech research in the Middle Ages anyway. Industrious would be a good trait, however, so the terrain can be developed properly to the very fast growing cities.

The AP is good, and it's not like the games are that realistic to begin with.

Yes, the normal game isn't completely realistic (I often hit industrial age before 1500) but AP makes it even worse with spaceship victories before 1000AD.
There is alot of things that make AP a broken feature. Amongst others that there is no challenge in reaching 4-turn tech research or 1-turn unit production, and that unit support isn't raised.
I remember someone made an AP mod to make it tolerable to play, by doing things like lowering minimum research time to 2-turns.

i never use AP. i use to but know i enjoy long strageic games but that doesn't apply to multiplayer games where the fast win and the slow lose

Perhaps I could play as the Mayans, Chinese, or Egyptians on Pangea maps as long as I start with plenty of bonus resource around me. The only things that hurts being something industrious in AP mode except Egypt is that I mostly wait 6 - 9 turns of Anarchy to revolt to Monarchy or Republic being unproductive and being the lowest civplayer to have less cultural rate than other civilizations thus I've been forced to raze those high culture city into ashes. And another thing, Ancient Cavalry and Crusader produces every 5 turns consider to be wasted than the normal mode since I could still build other military units from highly productive cities less than 4 turns.

so, i just started my second game without AP (first one was the first conquest game: lost by far on chieftain lvl).I'm the best so far, but everyone is standing equal on scientific research and even better on cultural development. I have almost no improvements outside walls and barracks but am losing money every turn. And besides my capital, production is really slow (40 turns for medieval infantry)
I started building marketplaces and after that i'll build some more workers. Is that the best i can do????

Do you think you could upload a save from the game you're playing? I could give you a few pointers as an Emperor/Demi-God player. Some Sid level players might even help out.

I just looked at your save and there is one thing that you really need: workers. You have 13 workers to 27 cities(if i counted right). The terrain is highly undeveloped and that is the reason your cities have low production. A rule of thumb says that you must have at least 1 worker per city and 2 per city isn't uncommon.
Also, you should be settling some of the unclaimed land. It's always better to build more cities unless it is in completely hopeless locations.
Finally you should be careful with the unit support. A few more units and you will be running a deficit.

I have to completely agree with Theoden. The most important units in Civ3 are the worker and the settler and you have not built anywhere near enough of either.

And every single tile in every city is unimproved! If you had mined all of these tiles that were being worked on, then your production would have doubled for every turn that you have played so far, leading to a huge exponential increase in production, territory, research, money, units, growth etc... up to the present time. If a citizen is working an unimproved tile, get a worker to improve it, and if this is not possible, you simply don't have enough workers.

I don't know what happened but when i wanted to return to the game it gave me load error all the time.
But i started a new game in the conquests and was able to win it by far this time thx to your tips. So, thanks
BTW i made the leap to monarch lvl and so far it seems to work out as well!!

I bet most players might play as Mayans as their first civ to practice playing AP as long as they start near the rivers with bonus resources so they might be in good shape afterwards.
