Advanced Setup. Bug, feature, or did I screw something up?

When using Advanced Setup I usually use randomly selected AI civs. After all this time I was just messing around and noticed that if I select which Civs are in the game I can select multiple copies of the same Civ. For example I can make both the 2nd and 3rd civs be Alexander.

Is this normal behavior or did I accidentally mess something up when I was looking at the game files?

I think it's normal. I remember one game where I played with 5 Inca factions to rise in a highland map :D

Thanks for the answer, it seems kind of strange but I guess it makes sense. :crazyeye:

This way a person with the default number of civs (no DLC) could still play a map that requires a larger number of civs.

Still it must be weird having 5 different versions of Pachacuti running around on the same map.

It's pretty normal

That's how I discovered Snake Gandhi

I did that once by mistake. I had selected England twice. I was totally scratching my head when England appeared and their color was blue. I thought something went wacky with the game. Then I met the other England, who was red.

At least I was able to differentiate between the two because of the different colors. But it was hard to tell in the diplomacy screen. I was friends with the red one and enemies with the blue one.

I played as the Celts with 7 other Celtic civs... got the longest name ever achievement in no time, especially since there was a glitch that you don't even need to found the city to get the achievement... one of the other Boudicas got the achievement for me.

I remember that story of yours. It took me a while to finally realize what you meant by "Snake Gandhi", and to realize that there were two India's in the game.

Nothing weird about this. It's just like in a fighting game how both players can select Ryu or both select Liu Kang or both select Jin Kazama or whichever character and they'll be the same but have a color-differentiated costume/skin. Or like a TvT/ZvZ/PvP mirror match in StarCraft (you can even have 8 Protoss players, for example, on one map).

Care to share this story after making it sound interesting?
