Because of the ridiculous and boring AI cheating.

I know, thousand of topics were started before to talk about it, but I want to tell my example.

Today I was playing a game on the standard world map that came with the game (default rules), on the Regent level (for the first time), civ 1.29 version.

So I was always behind on the tech race. But then I noted that everytime I started a new research ALL other civs (no matter low they were on the histograph) got the tech I started to research immediately!

For example, I started to research Astronomy, then I went talking to all other civs and I saw that all them had Astronomy already.

So I offered the Chinese 500 gold and my world map for this technology and they accepted it. After the "We agree with your terms", I clicked again on the "We would like to propose a deal" and the chinese already had military tradition and physics - techs that they didn't have 2 seconds before!!!!

After that I checked all other civs and guess what? They had military tradition and physics too! Ridiculous! And it happened throughout the entire game!

I really got disappointed civ 3 after this game.

Any thoughts?

Hello,

do not be dissapointed. AI do not cheat. He shows in technology list when trading only those technologies that you can research. So since you could not research Military tradition they could not trade it to you. But when you get astronomy, you could research it and it immediatly appeared in AI technology list.

This is normal . Because else it would be not fair. You could exchange Military Tradition without researching Astronomy at first.

So You was left behind in tech race very far. But do not be sad and try to play again :)

bye !

All that is true.

But the AI cheats. There have been threads upon threads giving specific various indisputable examples of AI cheating. Just do a Search for them.

What do you expect? It can't compete with a human so it gets advantages, bfd. They're very easy to overcome.

Now I understand. I haven't considered the prerequisite stuff before.

Thanks for clarifying things.

To become really good at regent level, you may want to try a few games at monarch or emperor. Don't bother to win, just try to do as well as possible (and play slowly and carefully). After that, keeping up with the tech race in regent level is very easy.
