I will say both patches improved playability and stability. With the addition of the level editor* I'm more happy with my purchase. The addition of one extra parallel track (4 in total) improves the functionality at large stations. I would say in it's current state with Patch1.1 it just meets requirements to be purchased in the US$35-40 range. More scenarios are being added for free which helps also. Roller Coaster Tycoon went through similar pains but turned out to be a hit. What I feel is happening with these situation simulations is more effort is spent on the graphics (CG) than on the core logic. (This from experience of working on large (overblown) software projects).
Prior to P1.01, crashes where inevitable but now only happen when laying a lot of track. I can observe this crash coming when it does. The game just freezes after dropping in a new section of track. When you see this start then take a snapshot save.
* As far as the level editor, it's a little buggy but it works enough to do things with. I never had it crash but I did have to save and restart due to graphic problems in the program (soft crash). This editor is a little difficult to use and understand at first but it is functional and worth the release. I will mention that when editing the city and industry placement (referred to as entities) you have to save before going back to the main editor screen. I lost my city layout on the first try but now I know.
