Not sure where i should post this, so i tried here ;)

Does anyone have AOE2 and want to play online?

You should have the game + updated to version 2.0B (the update file is less than 3mb).
You could either use Gamespy, or if enough people want to play we can set a date and i can post the hosting IP :)

IIRC fifty was looking for someone to play AoE2 with. Here it is.

Maybe he wants to play now also ...

I'd love to play sometime!!!

Due to internet issues on my end though, you would need to download Hamachi if you wanted to play with me. Then we could just play via IP instead of worrying about gamespy.

I've already mopped the floor with two CFCers! You should be next!

I recently reinstalled Age of Empires 2, but I only played it online once. I could play, but it depends on the time, and I'm not any good.

The problem with aoe2 is that it is slow. Whereas in Age of Mythology one can get to the last age in little over 10 min, in AOE2 that is done in over 20 min at any rate, and it can take a long while to get there if one builds hordes of villagers anyway.
So the game is time consuming...

There is a reasonable likelihood that the game will be over by the third age against human opposition because of early rushing. I used to play it a lot but haven't recently.

That's one of the reasons why i never liked playing the AoE/M games in multiplayer. I like to build pretty buildings and pretty units, not rush through the ages and make an army with 1 unit type. :p

I used to play this loads when i was younger, against people online and offline then my disk got scratched :( i was looking at in a shop trying to decide if i should re buy it or not i went for MTW2 instead

I start attacking at the 13min mark against good players and the 18min mark against not so good players... believe me it would be action packed! :D

In aoe2 without the expansion the prevailing strategy on land maps is to rush quite early as chinese or byzantines.

With the expansion, the best strategy has evolved quite a bit to become an early dark age rush followed by a fast imperial as aztecs.

Of course a lot of less skillful players prefer to play no rush games which I can definitely handle. It is very fun to have an uninhibited boom followed by a champion flood  If you're playing someone good in a no rush game though it is best to use more conventional unit combinations and lots of economy raiding with light cavalry.

The standard map, at least in gamespy, is black forest, so even if you wanted to you cannot rush anything since a simple wooden wall (ussually of less than 5 pieces) will prevent that, and then in age2 a stone wall + two guard towers will mean the end of rush possibilities, even if you try to build catapults.
So all games in that map are being fought in the imperial age anyway.

BF is a noob map!

All of the high level players dont play on gamespy, they play on gamepark.eu

Anyways, a stone wall + two towers is by no means enough to prevent a good castle age rush, and it is often possible to sneak forward vils into an enemies area on BF even before he builds a palisade!

Overall though I dont like BF much. Rushing is what makes the game fun and exciting for the entirety of it instead of just hte last half hour!

I still play The Conquerors a lot on gamepark.eu I play mostly Land Nomad map which is fun because it is usually random civs, and most people attack in castle age (rather than feudal). It takes a LONG time to get good at this game, believe me. I have been playing for 5 years now and I am still classed as a bad rook :(
