Age of Mythology

Yes, came out yesterday. Microsoft put a 3PM local time restriction on it's release, but I got it and played with it last night. Got through the first two mission on the beginning campaign. And so far, it lives up to they hype and then some. The graphics are AMAZING.

I'm interested in RoN too, but not sure about it yet. I haven't been following nearly as much as AoM.

AoM rocks...everything works fine, no patches needed, multiplayer included...Firaxis and Infogrames need to pay attention. :hammer:

It's going to be hard to decide where my free time is going to go, AoM or PTW...I'm leaning toward AoM for awhile. :splat:

Just to update the AOM, I've gotten through about half of the single player campaign and am pretty happy. There doesn't seem to be a lot of change from the previous AOE games, but the new units and choice of deities makes it a little more interesting.

Graphics are just outstanding though. It freaking rocks to call down Meteor on top of someone's base...

Are the god powers well implemented? Do they make a reasonable impact on the outcome of a game without turning the game into attack their base and destroy it and then they destroy your base with god powers?

Dell, from what I remember, the God powers are implemented well. You only get one per age and they don't regenerate. Not all are designed to reign destruction of you enemy. Some are designed to improve production for either a limited time or longer, some are designed to give your troops a limited advantage or others a limited disadvantage and then there are the biggies.

The powers don't give you any huge advantage. For example, I recall attacking an enemy stronghold with the meteor power once and did not destroy every single building, but I did do some major damage most everywhere. Which made things easier, but not over the top.

Age of Mythology had a "been there, done that" feeling to it. I think the real time strategy genre needs innovation, a lot of games seem very similar.

I am waiting for Rise Of Nations, it sounds like a superb game.

Reznaak, I do agree with that. I did find myself in the same situations of AOEII had, but the graphics and god powers were enough for me to try and I wasn't disappointed. With that said, if they come out with an AOM2, I'd have to have some gameplay improvement/innovation to keep playing.

I just got AoM. I feel so disapointed! I thought it would be the best real time strategy game ever, but...
