I recovered my Civ2 cd, and thinking it would be fun to replay it, put it into the drive. I hadn't played it in years. As I played, I found it very enjoyable, from the introduction to the technologies. I loved to reload my National Council and hear them complain about my glorious empire. As my Viking armies swept across Aztec lands, I sat back and laughed, "Ha! I remember Elephants!" I remembered the technologies not in Civ3, like Bridge Building. And I occasionally built wonders just for the heck of it, like King Richard's Crusade.

Overall it was a fun experience, and I think that you Civ3 players should look back and play a round of Civ2 every once in a while. But beware, in my opinion it is even more addictive than 3. :mischief:

There are still people who prefer Civ2 and a reasonably large number of people preferred Civ2 over Civ3 when Civ3 first came out as things like the map being fully colonised whilst it was still BC was seen to be unrealistic but nowadays people lhave the chance to get used to the changes. I only really started to really prefer Civ3 aftre C3C...

Civ2 was cool, but now that I have Civ3, I am addicted to it. I can't get off. Is that a good thing, or bad thing? :mischief:

 Yeah. I miss the technology screen too. And those annoying Domestic and Military advisors popping up and telling you what to build. Civ3 is much better than Civ2 IMHO, but I just like replaying it sometimes.

Probably a bad thing if you have other things you should be doing...

Well, I do try and get my priorities right, and do my H/W first, etc, so hopefully not too bad!

The advisors were the coolest thing in civ

After you'd played the game hundreds of times like me, you get bored of them and turn them off! Only if I'm feeling happy, and want to know what they think did I visit them. They always seemed to say negative things though, even when I was doing good.
I remember their little comments... :).."Sir, the people, they can't help falling in love with you!"..."I concur your excelency"..."...we're number one in SCIENCE!"..."Let love and wine their rights maintain. No complaints sire!" (i'm not sure about that one, anyone have any corrections?) lol! :D

My problem is I try to use my Civ3 tactics in Civ2....doesn't always work out that way. Think worker actions....

But yes, it's fun to load up older versions of Civ and play for a while.

 First time I tried Civ2 in awhile, I pressed "m" for mine, and wondered why I had a forest!

Civ2 rocked a lama's ass when I first played it, but after almost two years of Civ3, I tried to go back and was lost! The advisor's on it were the best though, that military guy cracks me up..... We should be sticking swords into the hearts of our enemies! hahaha... classic.

" Wise men say only fools run their empire without luxuries" or words to that effect anyway! Anyone remember Elvis' actual words? It's been bugging me for a while now!

You forgot the most important part:

Wise men say only fools run their empire without luxuries......KING.

I may never play that game seriously again, but it's worth keeping around just for the advisors. Actually I believe it should also be 'wiseman' not 'wise men'.

No one can say that Civ II wasn't a great game. But I quit playing it even before CivIII was out in stores. Without going into it, I think CivIII is a thousand times better.
