AI attitudes

I have a couple questions about AI attitudes:

How do I edit the starting attitude the AI has in the editor? I want to modify the Midgard map so that everyone starts Furious with the Stygians (which would make a LOT more sense and be more balanced than the Stygians signing alliances against me with everyone in existence, IMO... especially since the Stygians will often be attacking their "allies" with their hidden nationality units in the process), but I couldn't find any AI attitude modifier anywhere in the editor. Is it not possible to alter directly?

Continuing on the same issue, why does the AI start hating me a couple dozen turns into the game? What happened in my most recent game is this:

1.) I'm out exploring the Great Continent with my hawkmen.
2.) I find other civs. Most of them start relatively friendly, and I trade for techs that I don't already have from goody huts.
3.) Infidels make a tribute demand; I refuse and they declare war on me.
4.) I kill their city on the Great Continent, and sign a peace treaty where they give me an advance (Mysticism, I think) in return. (Note, everyone else is cool with me at this point. The humans and elves are at polite, and merfolks were at cautious, if I remember correctly. Only the Stgyians and Goblins were annoyed.)
5.) Somewhere down the road, the Stygians make a tribute demand. Knowing that they can't really do much to me at this point and that war with them is inevitable, I ignore them and they declare on me.
6.) Stygians sign alliance against me with the Infidels.
7.) (Somewhere along the line, I succeed in philosophy-rushing to the Republic. I can't remember if this was before or after the Goblins declared on me.)
8.) Stygians sign alliance against me with the Goblins. (for the next couple of events, it may have been someone other than the Stygians to sign the alliance, I forget)
9.) Stygians sign alliance against me with the Merfolk.
10.) Stygians sign alliance against me with the Elves.
11.) Stygians sign alliance against me with the Humans.

(Also, throughout all of this, I've been starting off most of my cities with shrines in an attempt to prevent cultural gaps from being a cause of aggression.)

Why does everyone start to gang up on me for no apparent reason? (Especially since they can't actually get to me for the most part, and the only ramifications of the wars are a lack of trade and having to be slightly more cautious sending out units.)
(I'm playing on monarch difficulty, btw.)

(I was going to upload a save, but I can't find where the save files are stored... :( )

AI will normally try to sign others upto its cause given a little time, most will happily sign an alliance for a few gold a resource/luxury or perhaps a technology advance. Your best hope in this case is to sign the others up to fight for you before they get signed up to fight against you.

Are you playing on Win7? If you are you have to save the file to the desktop in order to be able to access it. If you're playing on Vista, I have no clue. And if you're playing on XP then it should be in C Drive/Program Files/Fraxis Games/Civilization 3 Complete/Conquests/Saves.

Er, no ... at least, I don't.

I tried making alliances with the AI like you said, but they never seem to want to make alliances with me. Usually I get a "They will be insulted by this deal" for an alliance against civilization I'm at war with (if I'm not at war with the civ, I get "They would never accept this deal!") no matter what I put on the table.

EDIT: Oh, and I'm on Vista. >_<

The AI won't make an alliance against someone unless at least one of you is at war with them.

If you are trying to pay gold per turn, and you want to pay more than your excess income, they will only consider what you are actually netting in taxes. You need to turn down your science and lux rates while you negotiate. You can turn them back up again after you sign your deal.

If you’ve a reputation as a deal breaker then GPT often is a no no, insulted by the deal means that if you up the offer they may agree, of course if you’ve nothing they want unless they fancy kicking the other civs butt your on your own.

The AI will often agree to an alliiance if you throw in a tech or two. Toss them your outdated techs and they will drool. If you have a primer tech you can trade it around for multiple alliances before it's trade value is busted. It will may only keep them in a short while - trading gpt, resource or luxury gives them a reason to stick it out for 20 turns. The AI thinks nothing of busting their rep - so to speak.

The problem is, I usually don't have any techs to spare. Usually by the point in the game the AIs begin turning on me, they've somehow caught up in the tech race.
