Well, I have seen it all, The AI executed a fully coordinated assault with preperatory bombardment, comined arms and a true blitz. I had taken an isald from the Chinese with two cities. They were held by marines and mountain troops. After the AI took the city by marinbe assault it landed the trans port and bee lined its way to the other city. As the troops arrived 2 BB's and 2 cruisers showed up to support and block the sea lanes. The AI actually passed up a lonely engineer to attack the other city. Shocked, truely shocked. Usuall the AI does not seem to grasp the idea of momentum... and for once it did. But not to fear, it soon wasted its cruises on my coastal fortresses acrros the channel, the 2 BB's did the same, although they survived with a hint of red left. And, my subsequent amphibious assault left them in disarray and once again responding in piecemeal assaults.

Just had to share...

Although it hurts when the AI attacks correctly, I always find myself more pleased afterwords as it redirects my energies, and is rather satisfying in some sort of masochistic way in the later stages in the game.

More fun to beat a worthy opponent I guess (actually, sometimes I'll gift a couple AI's a whole bunch of tech a couple turns before I plan on attacking them. I don't like to attck musketeers with howitzers and bombers).

I've never gifted a tech to someone that I knew I would do battle with in the short term. All things being equal, war never is. Take every advantage you can. I was impressed by the co-ordinated assault, and I can say tht I really was not upset with the loss of hte two cities. The lack of a decent response was also a telling indicator... the momentum has truely shifted and the war is now be taken to the Russians. The biggest diasdvantage for the AI is players to ability to divide AI forces and defeat them peacemeal. This problem does tend to affect the player negatively in that most of your allies tend to take the Italian approach to military campaigns - jump in with both feet and then scream like bloody hell for the player to come in and save them. In the end the best you can hope for from a AI ally is a status quo in most wars.

I guess the one good thing about AI peacmeal warfare is when everyone unites against you (quite a frequent occurance when you are the big kid on the block) - a combined and coordinated assault by all of the AIs would leave you feeling like Custer.

I've always thought the ai was pretty good at war with modern units. As far as an ai goes anyways.

It uses bombers well.I've seen it use the bomber stack.Perhaps an accident but perhaps not.
It does know how to break thru a city that is surrounded by airbases.
It uses howies and rails very well and also quite good with the nuke/paradrop tactic.
