I know this is Deity, but seriously? How is it even possible to found a religion on T26? This is standard speed, not quick. I'd understand if it were Desert Folklore, but the AI that founded on T26 chose Goddess of Protection (30% city strength)! The math just doesn't work out; even with a shrine in each city and +2 for each city (assuming it's the Celts), that's still only 6 FPT, which wouldn't get anywhere near 200 Faith by T26.

Anyone care to explain how this is possible?

Edit: Well, Petra got built on T60. This game's gonna be pretty intense, by the looks of it.

Meeting a couple Religious City States and getting to be allies with them for killing barbarians would probably do the trick, although you'd still have to get really lucky (and of course be cheating like the AI does)

or probably a faith mountain?

A natural wonder throw in for heavy faith production. +8 or +6 from sinai or uluru could push them over. Easier to start with one of these on diety with two settlers for the AI.

I often wonder about this as well. I typically play on Emperor at Marathon speed. The first pantheon is 30 faith and I often see the AI knock one out within 15 turns. Ancient ruins don't give out faith that early and excluding the Celts no other civilization should be able to generate faith that early.

IIrc on Deity the AI only needs 130 faith to get a prophet as well.

Ah, that could explain it.

The problem with the faith mountain theory is that the AI would've chosen One with Nature if that were the case.

I suspect it was probably the Celts, who found a religious city-state...any other possibilities?

Mt Sinai in second city, founded on turn 4.

8faith/turn x 22 turns = 176 faith. Subtract 15 for pantheon. 161 faith.

Assume 8 more for meeting faith CS. 169.

Complete a barb camp quest by turn 20 to get 3 faith per turn. 187.

Faith ruin. 217 (or 247 if pantheon already founded)
Add +2/turn for shrines, assuming they built them immediately. +40 more.

That gets you to 250, almost 300. But they don't need even that much. :-P

It's possible for a lucky AI to found on turn 26 without a faith NW. Just very unlikely.

I think I've founded a religion as early as turn ~35 with a lucky start. Definitely sub 40.

Spain + Mt. Sinai thats 12 Faith / Turn + at least 2 cities with a shrine each + Piety = 16 faith / Turn :)

Yeah, faith natural wonder + deity lowered faith requirement for the prophet. Had similar turn religion once by Germany who had founded his second city with his free settler next to Uluru.
I remember checking how this was possible using some civ 5 tool that allows analyzing saves. Unfortunately I don't remember the name of this program.
