I agree that the AI has progressed quite a bit but in my first real game I found one....an AI stupidity....What happened>

AI sent forth a settler with warrior escort to build new city.Where he wanted to build the city was apparent because there was just *one* good spot. When I tried to interfere I put a warrior on the spot where AI wanted to build the city.As a result AI moved his tandem another way.Next turn I send my warrior on it's way.AI came back with his tandem on which I responded with occupying the buildspot with my warrior again. <repeat countless times...>

And there you have it....an AI stupidity....

Yup, the AI also needs to figure out that building swordsmen when they have the tech and resources to build Mech inf. is STUPID! And keeping 20+ Men-o-war around alongside battleships is a waste of 20 coins/turn and about 200 freefloating units of resources that should be DISBANDED!

My two biggests gripes so far...

The first would be easy to fix by dissallowing those weaker older units to be built- make them obolete but with a check built in so when you lack resources they become available again so the AI can build SOMETHING if I have ALL the rubber... ;)

The second one seems about as easy to fix too!

c'mon Firaxis fix these stupidities!

i wonder if they even touched the old civ2 AI engine
or just tweaked it a bit and forgot it
not much change to my knowledge after playing it; on contrary, some of the old flaws still exists.
Maybe it's harder than I think people could improve upon in 6 years.

I have found civs move through your land for only two reasons

1) to get to an enemy
2) to get to a square where they can build a city

The goal is to get on a pennisula and work up from there so they have no reason to go. If they do build near your empire, assimilate them!
