Air Combat Games question

Ok, I probably broke this subforums rules so please point me in the right direction.

Basically, I haven't played an air combat game since the early 90s (yeah I'm old). So for those that play them I'm wondering what's out there. Particularly are there air combat games that play like a FPS (battlefield 2, call of duty 4)? like they let you pick a map and you have air combat free-for-alls or team deathmatches. And finally do they have a game like this for modern aircraft and/or WW2 aircraft?

If so please recommend titles to check out.

IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 - Over 300 plans, dozens of missions, huge maps, and an insanely difficult learning curve similar to the frequent stalling and/or deaths I encoutner ingame. Requires a joystick if you want to actualy be able to play it.
