Unit Abilities : Immobile (dont know what it does, but Helicopter has it

Also, does anyone have a good civlopedia description for them?

^
^[Air Transporters] were vital in modern day war, as supplying troops across vast distances has been critical to the success or failure of military campaigns throughout history. However, the potential of transporting critical supplies by air was not apparent to most military leaders until after the start of World War II.
^
^Air Transport has a the advantage of size, bigger fuel tanks mean large distances can be covered, and more troops can be carried than the $LINK<helicopter=PRTO_Helicopter>. It can also carry mechanized units.
^
^A city needs $LINK<Oil=GOOD_Oil> in its $LINK<Strategic Resource=GCON_ResourcesS> box to build an Air Transporter.

What u guys think?

mm..i dont quite like the idea of an air transport....

i mean, we already have the helicopter, why not just mod that to be able to carry vehicles as well and increase its range (in real life helos can carry vehicles too)... having 2 units doing almost same job just makes too much redundant units..

anyways, thats my 2 cents

And i listen to your 2cents, but frankly, i totally disagree.

If they existed in real life, in my opinion, they should remain.

And how many helicopters do u know that can carry a panzer in a battlefield.

the air transport, makes sense, as it has a bigger fuel load (bigger operational range), and a bigger cargo hold (allowing mech's and units). To compensate, it costs 5 (50) more, and needs different resources.

Youve not played the game that long then have you, hehe.

It just means that you cant move it around like you can a normal unit.

It has a base, and its operational range. It can perform its tasks from its base in its operational range.

just play the game until you get Helicopter, youll see then!

By Air-Transport, you mean something the size of the C-5 in real life right? That big beast that could squeeze in over 50 VW Beetles in it? They have the power and ability to drop panzer tanks from their bellies. Why not have something like this in game. That would be sweet. Build tanks and fly em over your opponent's capital and *BLAM* end of story, well maybe not, but it would be cool anyway.

Yes, very similar to that.

But, we couldnt make it transport 50 tanks, as that wud be quite unfair, so we just did 2.

But the animations are good, and it looks like one HUGE-ASS plane!!

Make paratroopers airdrop to a new airbase. Send in marines and infantry take over the first city then build an aribase and move in paratroopers and modern armor. But there is some kinda limit because I cant get them all to go.

Can you build airbases? bc the air transport sucks if ya have to be on the nearest city, or if your opponent is on another island or continent. and doesnt have a carrier

I added your air transport to my game but I did not use the immobile. Here's why: At least at Warlord and Cheiftan you can rebase anywhere in the world in one turn. I didn't want it to move things that fast. Also I think of it as a C-130ish type plane that can basicly land anywhere.

So without immoble I can move the plane anywhere I want. Also I did not have to give it a 1 in attack. Right now its 0/0/20 although the movement may change later.

Sorry for the misconception, but it isnt actually my air transport, i didnt make it...i just meant the stats for MY game.

Second,

I have tested with immobile and without, and it is far better with.

I use the fact that Civ3 makers seemed to agree with me on this.....as they did it for the Helicopter.

Also, concerning another point, if they dnt have a carrier, thats their fault.

I think u shud ignore the immbobile thing, and add it. it is far better for the game, and ur own enjoyment.

I know where I am coming from as I didnt like it either at first, but having listened to peoples opinions that have the game round here, they said immobile made it far better.

Trust me and try it!

Also, in real life, the C-130 plane cannot land almost anywhere.

it is far to heavy to land on snow or ice without proper runway conditions, and even with runway's it will be difficult. It cannot land in jungles, and i doubt deserts either.

I am saying this as raw terrain as i think an Airbase is meant to simulate a runway.

So thatis my other point which makes immobile far more realistic.
