Aircraft Carriers before Flight

I don't really like the idea that you can start building Aircraft Carriers before you discover Flight.

There should be an arrow from Flight to Mass Production, so that Flight is a prerequisite for an Aircraft carrier.

I know that I can change it myself, this is one of many adjustments to the game that have to be made just so common sense or logic can prevail.

I would think that this would have been a no-brainer.

It is amazing that after all the expansions and patches that this still is allowed.

Yes it's strange, but making Flight a prerequisite for Mass Production would be too extreme. Historically, we could build battleships before airplanes came onto the scene.
You'll just have to change it yourself if it bothers you that much, or put up with it.

What about making Mas Production a prerequisite for Flight, and move Carriers from that to Flight?

Maybe that is a better idea, I really didn't give the solution much thought, but that makes good sense.

Keep in mind that the first aircraft carriers were modified battleships. Erm, maybe. But that's the way I remember it. It wasn't until WWII or just before they started making actually carriers. The rest were just the biggest ships that could be modified to be able to put a flight deck on top.

This could be easily fixed in Civ 4 if they made it so units could have more than one prerequisite technology.

You're right, I remember seeing some documentary that had some footage on that.

But still you wouldn't build a carrier if you haven't discovered flight yet.

mod the game so you get carriers AFTER flight. no big deal.

i personally dont care, there's a bunch of stuff that doesnt make sense but its a game, no big deal if its not always 100% accurate. i understand the complaint and i agree but i dont care enough to change it.

Battleships, Battle Cruisers, colliers, etc. Whatever fit the bill.

I agree completely. We had planes way before we had carriers, and if we bumped carriers to Advanced Flight, then there would actually be a somewhat good reason to research it.

It's really easy to change.

Just go into the editor:
edit units, select carrier, change prerequisite from mass production to advanced flight.
