Some suggestions:

1. Fighters should be allowed to "escort" bombers -- perhaps by allowing fighters in intercept mode to intercept enemy fighters attacking your bombers. Any difference in bomber/escort range of operation would mimic real life.

2. It should be possible to target enemy aircraft in cities specifically -- attacks on airfields. And remote airbases should be buildable.

3. There needs to be more carrying capacity on carriers.

4. All units, including leaders and workers, and certainly artillery, should be able to be airlifted.
 
1 - I agree. There is a forum talking about this very idea

2- I agree. Its annoying that the only way you can take out a fighter is by hitting it with bomber till eventually the bombers beat it or taking the city with a land unit.

2b-The ability to build remote airbase was in Civ II and put back in Civ IIIC.

3- YES! Give the carriers real power! I've unloaded a carrier and had the unit remain unhurt afterwards. Civ I & Civ II could carry 8 units.

4- Yes

And one addition:
5- The ability to actually destroy units. Maybe after a bombardment, the unit is killed.
 
1)just send the fighters out beforeto bomb the place you want your bombers yo, it'll draw out the opposing fighters, and what would happen if the target was in range of the bomber but not the fighter?

2)too bad, although there is a chance of thathappening with C3C [c3c]

4) use the editor (and i think they can in C3C [c3c]

If the bombers go beyond the fighter range, then they're on their own, like in earlier WWII. Simple stuff like this should be part of the game up front, without having to rely on editors or approximations, IMHO.
 
Also can the auto bomabrd have a range of targets rather than just one - such that if that unit is destroyed the bomber can move onto the next item (unless it does aready and I'm doing it all wrong) - but If there are a stack of units and I set 5 bombers to auto bombard them - after it is done I wish the auto bombard to continue within a close by range of other units - also to auto bombard road networks

The capacity for carriers sould be a litle higher,6 airplanes for example.
Anyway i am not sure if the curent movement of aircrafts is better than the old one.Maybe Fighters-Bombers sould be units like in Civ2 and CTP,where the movement is made by the player.One part that i realy liked in CTP,was that Bombers not only had a limited number of movement in every turn but actually you sould calcolate the fuel capacity of the plane.Which means (for those who havent played CTP) that the bomber had fuel for 3-4 turns,in every turn you could move it X tiles.So as i said i am not sure if the curent status of Airplanes is the best.
 
if u complain about amounts of plains you have to think about the fact that each plane is equal to in US military standard one Plane=A core thats the closests representedfigure to what a plane is eqaul to by the way a core is like takeing the amount in one army like the 3rd army for example and spliting it in half, i like the movement as it is but i want kill cabability for the planes
 
I am not complaining (if you are refering to me that is).But i am not quite sure if i followed your point,what US military has to do with the airplanes-units of Civ?I made a reference to the movement of these,you say you like the current,well i don't know what i like best,certainly i liked the indipendent move of each unit,but this one is good too.I only have my doubds.
 
i was saying that people who dont like the fact that carriers cant carry more planes that if u think about it the carriers actually carry alot of planes if u think about the fact that one plane in game represents alot and i just like the movement as it is in Civ3 except not being able to kill with planes just damage
 
But a carrier can cary 4 planes,right.Half of them in order to control the skies must be Fighters,because it is way to easy to sink a carrier if this depends it's air defence only from the ship .So you have 2 Bombers & 2 Fighters which isn't such a great number respect with how many planes a carrier can realy transport.
The represantation values for every unit in the game,not only for airplains.
 
also i want some new action that allows fighters to patrol not only the sky but land/sea. so if a any unit comes into the range of the fighter it would be attacked at by the fighter. but the range would probably cover only a small range of the operational range of the fighter :D

this would truely make aircrafts especially fighters more useful than they are know. :goodjob:

P.S. like all the ideas but the last 2 can be done in the editor :eek:
 
I have incorporated many of these suggestions into the Civ4 Consolidation Project units, combat and movement section. Look for the initial stuff to come out soon.
 
yo guys this is my first post so be patient with me. I just registered and have been reading almost all of the posts about Civ 4. I cant wait till it comes out. I had a thought of changing the way air based units attack. i really dont like the way the paratroopers attack in Civ3. it takes so long before they attack because the helicopter or they air drop takes a turn. then they only get to attack the next to but are so vulnerable in that one turn because of their low defense. im suggesting paratroopers attack like in Civ 2 where they dropped on a city and fought automatically. I feel that would be nice since they would add a better feel to the game like that marines do with their amphibious attack which makes them special. other than their ability to paradrop. paratroopers are not much of a unit in Civ.
 
@dmitrius Welcome to the forums. I agree 100%. Paratroops should be allowed to attack the square that they are dropped on. The squares are (usually) 100 x 100 miles, so there are likely to be places within the square where the enemy has not congregated. In order to prevent the nuke-rape that Civ2 had, they could make it that any friendly units moving into a square affected by a nuke blast that turn also still get affected by the nuke blast.
 
if u want higher transport/carrier capacity, mod the game...i modded carriers to carry 15 planes and transports to carry 25 units.....although of course i wouldnt mind this being the default. naval invasions by the AI have never been better.

allowing fighters in intercept mode to attack other fighters intercepting your
bombers could cause a rather long loop...
consider two enemy cities close together. a bomber lifts off in city A and is intercepted by a figher in city B. a fighter in city A tries to intercept the fighter in B....and a fighter in B intercepts this fighter in A...and another fighter in A...intercepts.... u know where i'm going with this....
in the end, it's a really long loop of interceptions.
