CFC Baseball Fans:

Post your greatest baseball team of all time:
(The players who would make it up, not the whole team:))

C: Roy Campanella

1B: Mark McGuire (I know I will catch heat for this one)

2B: Rogers Hornsby

3B: Mike Schmidt

SS: (A VERY tough one) Alex Rodriguez over Ernie Banks. Barely.

LF: Barry Bonds

CF: Willie Mays

RF: Babe Ruth

DH::D Hank Aaron

RHP: Greg Maddux-Bob Gibson

LHP: Sandy Koufax, Randy Johnson

Feel Free to poke fun at my choices! :)

Edited once to clarify rules for smart a$$es.;)

C: Mike Piazza- the best hitting catcher of all time
1B: Lou Gehrig
2B: Hornsby
SS: A-Rod
3B: Harmon Killebrew- played at third almost as much as at first, and I always hated Mike Schmidt for some strange reason.
LF: Bonds
CF: Mays
RF: Ruth
DH: Ted Williams- Missed five seasons in his prime serving his country in two wars and still hit over 500 homers. My alltime favorite ballplayer

RHP- Walter Johnson, Christy Mathewson, Roger Clemens
LHP- Koufax, Johnson, Lefty Grove

RP- Hoyt Wilhelm, Rollie Fingers

C - Carlton Fisk

1B - Lou Gehrig

2B - Joe Morgan

3B - Mike Shmidt

SS - Honus Wagner

LF - Barry Bonds

CF - Willie Mays

RF - Henry Aaron (better 'd' than Ruth)

DH - The Babe

LHP - Lefty Grove

RHP - Christy Mathewson & Nolan Ryan

Closer - Rich Gossage

1b- Lou Gehrig
Finest 1B ever, could hit and field
2b-Ryne Sandberg
Solid fielder with tremendous power and good speed for a middle infielder
SS-Honus Wagner
Finest hitting Shortstop in baseball history
3b-George Brett
Smooth fielder, cluth hitter, one of the finest pure hitters in baseball history
LF-Ted Williams
Best hitter in baseball ever.
CF-Joe DiMaggio/Mickey Mantle/Willie Mays (tough choices!)
All three could field, hit, hit with power, run, and had rocket arms
RF-Babe Ruth
Best player in baseball history, bar none.
C-Bill D1ckey
Best combination of hitting for average, decent power, calling a good game, and good throwing arm

SP-Tom Seaver
Finest Righthander I ever saw, nobody could dominate like Tom Terrific
SP-Roger Clemens
Best combination of strikeouts and wins, the Rocket is unreal
SP-Randy Johnson
Is there a more dominating Lefty then this guy?
SP-Whitey Ford
Crafty control pitcher, could pinpoint a curve better then anybody.
Honorble Mention:
Sandy Koufax
Had control problems in early part of his career, but nobody dominated like he did for a good 7 years, till arm blew out.

RP-Rich Gossage
Most intimidating closer ever
RP-Hoyt Wilhelm
Knucleballer with a fastball and great contol
RP-Jim Kaat
Could start, close, pitch middle relief, and won 20+ Gold gloves!
RP-Dan Quisenberry
Cancer took Quiz early, but this guy was one of the better releavers ever to play the game.
Honorable Mention:
Mariano Rivera
Most reliable closer in baseball the last 7 years, will have to do it another few years to be an all-time great.

I'm sure I'm missing really good guys, but this bunch would be real hard to beat. ;)

Have you ever heard of CAL RIPKIN JR.????!!!!

Napolean: Cal couldn't hit his way out of a wet paper bag. (Compared to Ernie and A-Rod)

I left the Splinter off erroneously... He will be my pinch hitter. :goodjob:

AoA, I hate Dan Quisenberry!:D It's an '85 world series thing.

C - Johnny Bench
1B - Lou Gehrig
2B - Ryne Sandburg
SS - Derek Jeter
3B - Brooks Robinson
LF - Ted Williams
CF - Willie Mays
RF - Roberto Clemente

Starters
RHP - Bob Gibson
LHP - Randy Johnson

Relievers
Bruce Sutter
Dennis Eckersley

C - Bench -- Piazza can't throw worth beans..
1B - Lou Gehrig
2B - Hornsby
SS - Wagner
3B - Schmidt
LF - Williams
CF - Mays
RF - Ruth
DH - Aaron

LHP - Randy Johnson, Sandy Koufax
RHP - Curt Schilling, Bob Gibson
Closer - Gossage

C - Yogi Berra (piazza will probably be here by the end of his career) and Bench as defensive backup

1B - Lou Gehrig, a classy player clearly the class of his position

2B - Joe Morgan, though Eddie Collins is pretty close

3B - Mike Schmidt, easily the best at the weakest position quality wise

SS - Honus Wagner, A-Rod is simply too early into his career to be called the greatest at ever. He's yet to even pass Cal Ripken.

LF - It's a toss up here....you can take your pick of 2 a-holes, Ted Williams or Barry Bonds, or one of the great gentlemen of the game, Stan "The Man" Musial and you wouldn't weaken your team a bit. Williams is a better hitter than Bonds, no question. Bonds is better defensively than Williams. Musial was solid all around and an asset in the clubhouse. Who's the greatest? The Splendid Splinter right now, though Bonds will be in another 3 years. Who would I want on my team? Stan Musial.

CF - Say Hey, Kid!

RF - The Babe

DH - This is the abomination of baseball....not a true position and thus gets no player named to it.

SP: "Big Train" Johnson, the greatest pitcher ever. Lefty Grove, the greatest LH pitcher ever (though props go to Koufax for dominating for a shorter period of time), Pete Alexander, Cy Young. If you're looking for a modern pitcher, of course Clemens and Maddux. Martinez and Johnson are moving rapidly up the list.

CL - Hoyt Wilhelm or Dennis Eckersley...maybe the Goose
