Am I alone? Keep starting over..

I new new to Civ and to the whole genre itself. I am taking it slow, because I want to learn and enjoy this game.

I have started several games over, and was just wondering if this is the norm!! After starting a game, then reading articles, I realize I screwed up and am doing things completely backwards. I was just wondering if this is the way most new people start out!!

I started hundreds of game without finishing most of them.
It's pretty normal for me. In 10 game i start i'll finish only 4-5 of them. Really often i make some big mistakes, like forgetting to specialize cities in proper way, but this is not the reason i quit.

For example, now i'm trying my first game on marathon speed, i have something like 11 cities in medium map in 900 AC, pretty good for me, and NO ONE produce GPs. I know I need a GP farm, but simply i cannot choose one city good enough. It's my fault. But i'm really crushing all of my enemies without difficult. So it's just too funny to quit beacause i made a big mistake.
Immortals are really scaring, never tried them before

You're not alone. A lot of people finish less than half the games they start. Actually, what you're doing sounds like a good way to learn. Try something and discover why it doesn't work.

There are a number of reasons - you realize you made a big mistake, the game gets boring because you're far ahead, etc. I think this is a fairly common way to start out.

Not alone. I've restarted plenty of games, whether it was because of some Barbarian uprising that trashed my early cities, or someone DOWed me when I didn't have much of an army, etc.
