Am I the only one?

I didn't like civ1 (for windows) when it first came out. Want to know why? Because the map seemed unclear, and the straight-up-and-down view was hard for me to use!

Then came civ2. The graphics seemed much clearer to me, and I loved the isometric view. I could understand what I was doing much better now!

Am I the only person who had this experience?

Anyway, now I like civ1 but that is mostly because I don't have civ2 available to me.

Eheheh, generally I hear the opposite, ie people who loved the 2D of Civ1 and were horrified by the isometrical view. That was the case for me. I prefer Civ1.

But of course you're free to dislike it. It's your choice

Anyway, need Civ2?

I didn't have a problem moving units when changing over to Civ 2 and the grapics were better so....

However, my friend whom I played MP games with back then couldn't get use to it and there would be several times when he would send me a message saying that he had moved something wrong and wanted to reload the turn. It took him almost 2 months of playing to get over the new screen.

I prefer Civ 1 to Civ 2 because of the 2D graphics, I think it looks better or maybe just more nostalgic. :)

i really didnt like the new veiw for civ2 when it came out but I hate smac's veiw b/c i always end-up move right where i dont want to

I didn't have any trouble going from Civ1 to Civ2. The new view didn't seem that new to me because I had played a lot of Simcity 2000 and X-Com, which use similar views (from what I remember).

I must say that the Civ1 for Windoze really sucks and I'm glad I found a copy of the DOS version. I find the Windoze version awkward to play and the graphics are not that interesting to me. I like the DOS Civ1 because I can do everything I need to with the keyboard, which I find to be a better interface for that game.

I do, however, think the Amiga version was a bit better.

I was never all that taken with the graphics in Civ I. (I played dozens of games before realizing the settler unit was a covered wagon. Always looked rather like a mutated Pacman ghost to me...)

Without getting into a debate on the merits of which is the better game I found that Civ II looked far better, which is natural given the progression of technology.

As for the isometric map in Civ II it looks nice, but I can never play on the bloody thing without having the grid turned on.
