anyone know anything about the .amb files? I assume they randomly play sounds during actions of units, This is because there is like infantryrun.amb, and then infantryrunfoot1.wav, infantryrunfoot12.wav, infantryrunpack1, 2.wav, infantryrunrifle1,2.wav, and so forth.... anybody have any idea how these can be edited, or how they work?

I've wondered if the .amb files could be edited as well. I've tried using Notepad and Wordpad, but neither one worked. If somebody can figure out what to use to edit them with, we could really put together some great sound packs for new units.

I've edited them successfully with WordPad by renaming the wav files that I wanted to use to be of the same character length as those I replaced. Works fine except for a strange problem where other units sometimes used the altered amb when they weren't supposed to. Example: BlueO's Amazon I gave a custom amb using some sounds from CTP based on the Spearman amb but renamed to AmazonAttack.amb or something like that. Works great. The only problem is that every now and then I'd see an AI spearman go to battle and I'd hear the Amazon sounds even though the amazon amb file was renamed from the spearman amb file.

Hearing spearmen sound like girls got to be real old quick so I just took all the little wav files in the amb and combined them into one wav and replaced AmazonAttack.amb with AmazonAttack.wav.
