An EU2 story about an Italian dash for Greatness

I think the rebellions are there to make it difficult to hang on to the French provinces. France will always declare war until you are too powerful and Denmark probably declared war because your bad boy rating was too high. Denmark shouldn't be a huge concern since they should not have a land border and thus the AI will massively mismanage their armies.

i had lands in spain and a few colonies in the caribbean, they were either all revolting or being invaded.

Rebellions in colonies shouldn't matter usually since rebellions are linked to population size and thus rebellions will not be able to start sieges.

Having territory in Spain is a bit silly if you are Protestant and if you haven't wiped out France yet. As England you sort of have to wipe out France or at least severely weaken them otherwise they will declare war to get you out of France.

Another alternative is that occasionally the game can seem to fire loads of rebellions for no reason which can be fixed by reloading the game. Also you could decrease the AI aggressiveness so that they don't declare war as much.
