A little while ago I remember seeing something about Progenitor Civs by Praetyre. It seems to have shown some promise but was quite complicated. I really liked the idea though and it sparked me to think of some way of at least using the GEM map to add very early civs/peoples so anybody that likes the idea of playing as Proto Civs or ethnic groups can do if they feel like it.

So I was going to put together a GEM map with some very early prehistoric civs/ethnic groups.

All I need is some help to direct me to as much pre-existing material as possible so I don't have to do as much work on naming cities and possibly adding unique units/buildings. The starting civs/peoples I had in mind are as follows and if any of you know if these civs have already been completed by someone else that would be cool;

Africa.
Berber
Egyptian (Vanilla Egypt will work as I have in mind Ancient Egyptian speaking, not Arabic speaking Egyptians)
Nubians
Yoruba
Hausa-Fulani
Oromo (Ethiopia will most probably work here)
Mande
Bantu
Khoi-San

Europe.
Basque
Celtic (Vanilla will work fine)
Germanic (The Germanic speaking peoples, so tribes of ancient Roman Empire times will work well)
Greeks (Vanilla will work)
Italic (Etruscans or Roman Empire? I can't decide which would work best?)
Anatolian (Hittites should work well)
Slavic Peoples

Middle Eastern/West Asia.
Arabic (Vanilla?)
Canaanites (Phoenicia/Isrealites)
Akkadians (Assyria/Babylon)
Armeneans
Sumerians (Vanilla is fine)
Kartevelians (Georgians)
Medes (Persian People, so Persia will work I think?)
Pashtuns (Afghanistan)

Central Asia.
Turkic Peoples (These guys spread far and wide so some ancient Proto-Turkic cities would be great, rather than the vanilla Istanbul etc...)
Harrapans
Tamil (Chola might work?)
Tibetans
Mongol (Xiongnu)

East Asia.
Japanese
Han (Vanilla China might work?)
Koreans (Ancient Korea)
Manchu
Mon
Zhuang (Southern Ancient China)
Khmer

Americas.
Northern Forest Indians (Cree)
Hopewell Indians (Iroquois/Cherokee)
Plains Indians (Apache?)
Pueblo Indians
Nahua (Aztec?)
Maya (I don't know whether to start as just the Olmecs in Central America?)
Tupi
Mapuche
Inca

Australasia.
Aborigines
Austronesians (Javanese/Polynesian/Papuan?)

There are many other Peoples I could add, but I just tried to start with an even spread of ancient peoples and some of the most enduring or well known.

My idea is that you start with a ethnic group or race and as C2C has cultures you can found that way the Canaanites might found Isreal or Phoenicia for example.

The immediate problem I see here is coming up with city names. This won't be too problematic for those ancient civilizations with extensively documented histories, like the Egyptians or Chinese, but what about the rest? Some of these ancient civilizations weren't even settling in place during this time, such as the Turks, Mongols, and the American civs.

So what exactly are you looking for, names, units, LH's CIvs, what? Not quite understanding what you asking for? Are you going to add these civs? Remember now, NO buildings are going to be with the civs added, thats a :nono:

It sounds to me like you are not so much talking about "Ancient" Civs as about "Prehistoric" ones, at least as C2C defines eras. These might work well with the Nomad Camp unit, if that gets working, and the Nomadic Lifestyle as most of the above really didn't settle 'cities' as such. Still, if you feel that you need 'cities' in a sense, perhaps you could name them after the regions they inhabited and/or any sub-tribes and peoples. Sorry I cannot help with actual names as that is outside my knowledge base.

Sorry for the confusion. Originally I had in mind just cities and leaders as that's relatively easy and I can get some starting civs going on the GEM map with prehistoric civs as acurately as possible. Although realistically many areas of the earth wouldn't have really had anything more than a handful of hunter gatherers, so some artistic licence is going to have to be given.

I had toyed with the idea of regions. This would work well with the "cultures" you can build in C2C. Plus regions could and have been settled by various different people through time where-as cities tend to be very civ specific.
