Another Reason Not To Buy Warlords

I have played vanilla quite extensively before and after the patches so I know what to expect. I recall playing vanilla with 12 civs and a huge marathon random map and not having problems after the last patch. I'm not sure if I ever tried 18 civs and if I did it probably wasn't too far into the game before I quit (just lack of interest with that many civs).

The game I "was" playing on Warlords was the same 12 civ conditions I played often on vanilla, however, now I'm having problems similar to the pre-patch conditon of vanilla, in that at about 1830 or so the graphics were regularly losing it at points and about every other action on the map experienced either long delays or total wipeout of the game. So I overpiad for this? I guess I'm forced to go down to 8 civs. I haven't played Warlords all that much, and most of the time only with 8 civs. This is the first time I got this deep with 12 civs, and it had been cutting out probably since 1750 or so, but I just put up with it. Now it totally knocked my hard drive out and was playing off a save from a fresh boot.

Great, get a few flimsy new features known as scenarios and then get less by it knocking your graphics into orbit again. Just great!

this sounds like it should be in the tech support forum, not in the whine-about-my-computer-but-i'll-post-it-in-the-most-notable-semi-relivant-forum.

With Warlords my gameplay actually seemed faster. I remember being impressed with how well they optimized it and sped up the engine.

I saw no change until what I described above. you would have thought I was running another program at that point, but nothing wa different from any other time I play it, as I do it standalone.

What if your computer is a peice of crap?( mine was I got a new one!)
No, mine is fully capable, at least for the specs this game gave it. It's worked on every game I've had to date, (2.8G) including the vanilla once they put the patch out for it.

Oh, I found some other GLARING problem with Warlords too, and I only forgot it because I dealt with it, but once again this makes it less of a game than vanilla. There is some odd VERY LOUD sound that is being generated through my speakers, totally a part of Warlords, as I've at least narrowed that down, which hasn't occurred on this computer before, which I would say is probably 3X in amplication to the next loudest sound in the game. I forgot it because I of course turned sound down to it's minimum. I can't tell if it came about before the awful graphical problems or after, as I somewhat lost track of when both symptoms started due to my making adjustments to 'try' to get around them because I had a swell game going (no more). This particular game, the longest I've got into warlords to date with 12 civs, is the first one where I got the sound problem. It sounds as though it's a bombardment sort of sound, because the very tailend sounds something like that, but it's mostly staticish. I'm thinking it's a sound caught in a buffer somewhere that comes out at odd times because I hadn't noticed a pattern other than it seemed to occur most frequently when moving a unit. OTOH it also had occured if I'm not very much mistaken during it just sitting there. It's always a surprise in any event and didn't occur until at least midway through that game (I've seen it nowhere else).

I don't register this in the tech forum a) because I haven't seen widespread mention of these traits, but then maybe not very many have got very deep into marathon 12 civ games yet b) I'm still angry at the price, and this game apparently inheriting the original problems of the vanilla with my computer angers me still more (with the sound problem as an extra added bonus). c)because I don't have a save of that game and have no intention of playing that rubbish version only to have it thrown back in my face with a CTD. I'm actually going to try to play it to some degree that it might work; inferior to vanilla though it currently is.

Yeah, the noise is an annoying bug, but its easily fixed if you could be bothered to look about for a solution.

You still sounds like a noob whining about how crap his PC is.

I no longer run into the late game graphics issues. Warlords cured it for me.

its not your processer speed, that means junk really....

your FRONT SIDE BUS speed, makes or breaks your processor. also your graphics card could have low memory possibley? or low memory in general?

play with the settings lowered a tad? all medium maybe?

SO I sound like a noob, so what?

Get your graphic drivers up-to-date.

Thought that might be it too, however, it works just fine in vanilla, and besdies, drivers didn't do me any good in vanilla. It actually took a patch to solve this problem before, the driver made little or no difference. Whether an audio driver will fix the sound I haven't a clue, but as some people are cavalier to suggest driver updates everytime you get a problem, I know better than that, as the newer drivers are often worse. I suspect the warlords doesn't have the 1.61 patch from vanilla on it, but if so, I guess the only way it can work is for them to make one for warlords.

Good try, but I'm all up to specs (1MB memory for example). I never heard anybody talk about this bus speed thing before, but as I said the last patch fixed the similar problems I was having with vanilla.

If you spent more time fixing your problems, than ranting about it, we'd all be happier.
What's the problem with his ranting?

By the very title of this thread, it is clear that you won't see any praising. So, if you feel harmed by somebody not satisfied with Civ4/WL, just don't enter such a thread.
Alternatively, just point out where the OP could improve his settings or find solutions for what he thinks is not optimal.

Good words Commander Bello. Good words.:goodjob:
