I need a new CPU but don't want to spend too much. So do u guys know of any good CPUs of 1GHz that is lower $120 or just a little higher?

If you live in the US, your best bet is looking on newegg.com. Are you replacing a chip in an existing computer? You'll need to know what socket you have then.

Not any good ones no. But if you want a 1Ghz cpu maybe you could get it around that price but it will suck with todays software and games.

wow that sux. Ok then whats a good cpu to run say Civ IV nicely but not spend too much cuz frame rate goes down after my 4th city.

Your not going to get a good cpu to run civ4 with only $100 plain and simple.

1GHz is not enough.

hmm so I need higher than 1GHz then. man these games tech req are getting higher by the day. Well thanx for the answers guys.

Not to mention that if you dont already have a processor higher then 1 GHz your system is probably lacking in other areas such as a better video card or better power supply.

looks like you won't be able to put such CPU ( AMD Sempron series) in your existing computer. You're looking at whole system upgrade.

And yes, such CPU exist. I believe you can get Sempron 3100+ which is quite decent performer.

The official minimum requirements for Civ4 are a 1.2GHz processor and 512MB RAM. There's probably a thread in the Civ4 forum about real minimum requirements. (I still play Civ3) The AMD Sempron 3000+ and 3200+ are excellent budget chips, I have a 3000+ in the laptop I'm using right now, and a 3700+ in my desktop.

What are you smoking? If you pay more than $50 for a 1Ghz CPU, you're getting screwed. $120 will get you something in the upper 2 to 3Ghz range, especially if you're willing to go with a Sempron or Celeron.

But as has been said, the OP just needs a complete upgrade (I'm assuming his current system is <1Ghz).

youd probably get an athlon 64 3000+ for about that
