So are there any Lord of the Rings Mods being worked on for Civilizations 4? I'm a major LOTR fan and it'd be a dissappointment not to make one for Civ4.

I know that graphics-wise its only possible to change the skins of pre-existing units and not creating new 3D meshes, but when that is possible, is there anyone out there that might try to create such a mod?

I ask because I've seen so many LOTR-themed Mods for Civ3, yet haven't seen any people even talking about an LOTR Mod in the Civ4 forums. I could have overlooked something, but I did do some searches. If there will be such a mod in the works in the future, I'd be glad to help those out with ideas, design, and support :goodjob:

OMG,OMG,OMG!!!! Its Matt from the RA forums. Hi its Turgon nice to meet u(again).

I'm attempting to create a LOTR mod but I'm not sure how successful it's going to be. This is going to be my first time to mod. I'm nearly done with the map and the civilizations but cannot figgure out how to add units. All I'm doing for new units is putting on new skins and changing stats. I would love any suggestions/help.

Well I could suggest a units list for certain civs you are adding Ragnarak, I love coming up with ideas :p

I can also suggest some Wonders, city upgrades, improvements, etc.

And hey Turgon, I had no idea you were a Civ fanatic like me... Wow, its a small Internet after all

All suggestions are welcome. Here are the civilizations and leaders that I'm going to include:

Gondor: Aragorn, Anarion

Rohan: Theoden, Eomer

Lothlorien: Galadriel, Celeborn

Mirkwood: Thranduil

Numenor: Elendil, Isildur

Mordor: Sauron

Haradwaith: I don't know who they could have so I'll take suggestions.

Isengard: Saruman

Hobbiton: Bilbo Baggins, Samwise Gamgee

I haven't thought about what units to put in the mod yet.

Do you play "Age of Wonders: Shadow Magic"? If so, check out the amazing LOTR: Third Age mod done by BlackRose at Age of Wonders II Haven. He's taken the time to put together an amazing mod (best LOTR mod Iv'e ever seen for any game) and it has plenty of accurate units, etc.

This is just a MUSH site for LoTR but as there isn't a whole lot of info on certain races (such as the Haradrim) it seems like a good place to get names of leaders and what not.

Also I notice you left out the Dwarves, Thorin Oakenshield, Dáin Ironfoot, or Balin would all make good choices for leaders.

Hobbiton and Numenor no thanks! Otherwise I guess you might want to add Moria and Rhun.

I agree with IamSid. Unless you're doing the Second Age, take out Numenor.
Hobbiton, OTOH, shouldn't be taken out entirely, as Frodo, Sam, and the other hobbits are too important to the story (and I'd be mad if my namesake ended in Gondor or Rohan). Instead, why not merge the Shire with Arnor since they're close by? That way the Hobbits have access to some semi-powerful units that still work well with them (rangers), and Arnor isn't entirely excluded from the game.

As for Gondor's leaders, I think either Denethor and/or Faramir would do better than Aragorn and Anarion. Anarion (IIRC) died in the battle of Mount Doom, and wouldn't be a good leader for the same reasons as Isildur. And Aragorn was coronated king after the Ring was destroyed, so he shouldn't be a leader either.

And also Denethor(Not Aragorn or Anarion) should be ruler of Gondor.

Also maybe Dale could find a way in??

BardIII could be their leader.

City names would be a bit of a problem for almost every civ, but it wouldn't be too hard to make up some appropriate sounding names. I'd also like to see the Easterlings and perhaps the Corsairs of Umbar as civs as well.

I don't think Corsairs should go in, but Rhun should definetly be included.

I only suggest the Corsairs to help fill out the ranks of civs. As is (if the Shire was incorperated into Arnor, which I do think should be included) there would only be 9 (if Rhun is in as well). While 9 is alright I think the more the merrier.

Ummmm the Corsairs are part of Harad really...

Harad's Leader should be Ar-Pharazon. He was the one that founded the great city of Umbar (home to the Corsairs and capital of Harad). Yeah he might have been a Second Age hero, but all the same hes one of the few named characters that one could say is officially a leader of Harad.

And yes, we should have Moria, with Durin's Bane (the Balrog) as a leader, since Moria is my favorite LOTR civilization ever! (Ask IAmSid ;)). Also, Moria could include the orcs of Gundabad, which fought Mirkwood, Dale, and Erebor in the Battle of the Five Armies! If it weren't for the Eagles, they would have won, I say they make for a powerful enough civilization! If thats not enough, the orcs that now inhabit Moria took place in the War of the Dwarves and Orcs. They destroyed most of the Moria Dwarves all by themselves (well, they did have some help from the Balrog :P)! Also if Gundabad is added with Moria, Bolg (the orc who lead the Battle of the Five Armies) could also be a leader choice.

The Easterlings (which a better name should be Rhun) would be good too. Their leader could be Khamul of the East (a Ringwraith in the Third Age) but in King form for Civilizations as an Easterling King. You could also do Ulfang the Black as an Easterling hero too, but we really can't be too sure if the Easterlings of the First Age (when Ulfang was present) is the same Easterlings of the Third Age that inhabit Rhun though. Within the Rhun civilization, I suggest having the Balchoth as cheap infantry, since they always seemed to fight along side the Easterlings a lot ;)

I was wondering btw... Where are the Dwarves? You can't have an LOTR Mod without dwarves :P. I suggest especially doing either Moria (before it fell to the goblins) or Erebor. If you do Erebor, Dain Ironfoot is my suggestion as the civilization's leader ;)

Yeah, take out Hobbiton and make it Arnor. Heres one suggested hero I can think of: Paladin Took (the father of Pippin, and the Thain of the Hobbits during the Third Age).

By the way, heres some wonder ideas:

Tower of Orthanc: All cities for this civilization gain the Towers improvement (Towers would help with defense for cities)
White Citadel: Gives units that heal in the city that this wonder is constructed in an improved heal rate and lets the builder of this civilization build Citadel Guard in the city the wonder is built in.
Black Gate: All cities for this civilization gain the Gate improvement
Golden Hall: All cities for this civilization gain +1 :) and lessens War Weariness in the city this wonder was built in

And here are some Small Wonder ideas (Wonders any civilization can build):

Seeing Stone: City where the wonder was created in gains a massive sight range around the city and gives the user builder the ability to talk of any form of diplomacy with any civilization
Ring of Power: (Not the One Ring mind you) Gives the creator of this wonder an automatic hero of great power in the city this wonder was created in

An idea for like the ultimate Wonder could be the One Ring (the Alphi Centauri of the LOTR Mod). Construct it first and you win!

Just a few ideas at the moment, I'll think of others later I just know it :p
