Any LOTR Mods coming for Civ4?

Hold off on this mod till new units can be made for the game Ragnarak. It really is for the best.

I hate to argue, but Hobbits are a peaceful race. Hell, they needed Frodo, Sam, Merry, and Pippin to tell them to attack Sharky and his Hill Men during the Scouring of the Shire. Numenor is a bad idea as well in my opinion, or at least the name. Something like Arnor or the Arthedain (sp?) would fit better if you're trying to represent Dunedian.
 
I dissagree.

He should at least attempt the scenario even if new units are not possible, it will at least be a starting point for other LotR scenarios.

I agree with the name things though.
 
I have to agree. Calling the Dunedian Numenor just isn't really correct. They are decendents of the Numenorians, but in the same way that you or might be a decendent of Gaul or some such.

Also I can see you dig the Hobbits, but other than four, they hadn't produced any warriors (or even people of note) for hundreds of years.

I agree with IamSid. The scenario doesn't have to be done. It can always be updated once the SDK is out, and will provide a decent base to build upon.
 
Ok I agree with you all now, get done what you can and then worry about making it look nice with new units and such :lol:

I still don't see why you won't at least add Rhun or the Dwarves, or that your adding the Dunedian and Hobbits as seperate civs, but hey its your mod, not like I can stop you :crazyeye:
 
Now about Numenor, I have to decided to change the name because but not get rid of the civ. I don't think that that entire area should go without a civ. I can take suggestions about what to change the name to though (I've been thinking about changing it to "The Lost Dunedain" or just plain "Arnor" or something like that).

I would like to still keep my Hobbit civ since they play a big part in the LOTR story, but also just because they're fun.

If yall believe that that I should add Ruhn as a civ I will but I think they are barbarians. I want to add dwarves so can someone come up with a civilization and a good leader (otherwise I'll use the ones from The Hobbit).
 
When do you think the scenario can be done!! I can't wait. By the way great job making a lotr scenario.

And Harad isn't? Sorry, but the organization of Rhun's armies in the movie doesn't seem to look like a barbarian civilization at all... Oh well, at least your adding them anyways :)

My thought still stands that the Dunedian and Hobbits should combine to take one faction, afterall it was the Dunedian who protected the lands of the Hobbits. Then again, another idea is to combine the Dunedian with Rivendell (since Rivendell was where many Dunedian would stay and were raised up there too). Don't think I'm implying about taking out the Hobbits altogether, I'm just saying it would probably be better to add something like Bree or the Dunedian to them...

Anyway, here are some more wonder ideas:

Weathertop: Adds extra culture to all cities
Argonath: (Those two big statues from FOTR) Increases trade for all coastal cities
Seeing Seat: One free technology
Arkenstone: All cities gain +1 Gold

I'll work on ideas for city improvements later ;)
 
I'd say add Rhun. They may not be the cultural equals of some of the better know middle-earth civs, but they do have a civilization of their own thats a bit above barbarian level.

As for your Numenorian civ I'd deffinately go with Arnor. It keeps the scenario in the Third Age setting and it gives you what your looking for. Decended from Numenorians but not exactly Numenorian.

As for the Dwarves, you could call them the Khazâd (Khazâd is their name for themselves), or just the Dwarven Empire or something similar. As for a leader, Dain Ironfoot or Balin. Or Durin the Deathless (the founder of Moria), though that character is from long before the Third Age.
 
NaU why would Weathertop add culture? Maybe a defence bonus since it was a watchtower?
 
Well I was speaking more of the ruined version...

Besides, the Black Gate already give defense improvements (walls to every city), so it seems sort of silly to have another wonder that does nearly the same thing.

I do agree, Culture was a bit silly, but since this is a Third Age mod it sounds to be, and since the tower is in ruins, its more of a historical landmark sort-of thing then anything now. Due to that, a culture boost seems more accurate ;)

Gondor: Aragorn, Anarion

Rohan: Theoden, Eomer

Lothlorien: Galadriel, Celeborn

Mirkwood: Thranduil

Arnor: Elendil, Isildur

Mordor: Sauron

Haradwaith: Ar-Pharazon

Isengard: Saruman

Hobbiton: Bilbo Baggins, Samwise Gamgee

Rhun: Khamul of the East

The Dwarven Empire: Dain Ironfoot
 
A small note, its Rhun, not Ruhn. Other than that it looks good. Any time frame on a beta release?
 
My first release is going to be just the the map with the civilizations in there places, but there won't be any new units, buildings, or wonders.
 
I plan to have them in there postion in the books and movies. I think that I won't have any wonders already built so anyone can build anything. I am going to have technology research in the midieval type eras but the civs will have partially built up cities and troops and such.

You gotta be careful when doing this though, such things as religions (unless its worship of the Valar or Melkor/Sauron), certain improvements, etc. are uncharacteristic of LOTR. A better idea would be to make your own custom tech tree from scratch if u ask me, but then again beggars can't be choosers :crazyeye:

Also for civics, a custom list of gov'ts I think is needed, something like...
- Monarchy
- Stewardship
- Supreme Rule (aka Sauron, Saruman, etc.)
- Shamanism (different from tribalism in that its slightly not so out of control)
- Councilship (something that'd make sense for the elves)
- Confederacy (would make sense for something like Rhun)
