Any way to see what mods were used with a save?

This game can be incredibly frustrating. I just played about 250 turns of a game on epic speed, I'm currently near the Renaissance. Played over multiple sessions, saving the game and coming back to it later.

Suddenly I try to load my game and the game crashes. I start it up again, and all mods are unchecked. I check all the ones that I was using with that save - I think - and tried to load it. The game says "configuring game... please wait" and then crashes. Now, I don't think that "configuring..." pop-up happens if the game has all the same mods. In other words, if I recall correctly, the process is usually:
  1. Start the game, choose "MODS" from the main menu
  2. Select desired mods
  3. A pop-up says "configuring game... please wait"
  4. I reach the secondary menu, choose "single-player" and "load game"
  5. The game shows the loading screen and takes me to a savegame.
Now, that pop-up is happening twice - once before reaching the secondary menu, and again before loading a savagame. I can only assume this means there is a mismatch between the mods chosen and the mods used in the savegame - it makes sense it would need to do the "configuring" again in that case. But it doesn't work... the whole game crashes to desktop. So maybe it would work if I select the exact same mods used in the savegame? But, how can I find that out? The stupid game unchecked them all and I am left to guess and hope I got the list exactly right.

EDIT - weirdly, I can load up the 4000BC initial save for this game. But I have saves every 40 turns or so, and trying to load any of them results in a crash.

EDIT2 - for reference, here is the list of mods. (Like I say, it seems like this may be slightly inaccurate... maybe "Better Monastery" isn't in the save? If there's a difference, it's something small like that.)
  • AI No Free Tech
  • American Ranch BNW
  • Better Monastery
  • Beyond the Future
  • Chop Jungle
  • Circumnavigate the World
  • Communitas Map

It sounds like that the saves after the one that works were corrupted.

P.S. Did you uncheck the mods after you saved the game? I usually do not uncheck them if I am going to play the saved game.

I don't know how they all could have gotten corrupted, though. I was bouncing around among them, loading various saves with no problems, over several days. Now all of them, the ones I had loaded before and the ones where I hit 'save' and never went back to it, crash to desktop. Are the save files in this game that fragile? How would the ones I never touched again have gotten corrupted?

I never uncheck anything, but sometimes when I start the game, they all become unchecked of their own accord. Sometimes the "transferring..." bar pops up as if the game re-loaded all the mods from the internet, maybe checking for updates or something. Whatever it is, it forces me to re-check all of the mods I am using in my current game. Generally I know which mods I've chosen and it's not a big deal. I figured maybe this time I just got it wrong.

...Aaand, after re-playing 125 turns from 4000BC, I randomly tried loading my prior save again, and wonder of wonders, now it loads. What is up with this game???
