CIV info:
The history of Bosnia and Herzegovina stratches back to the Roman times, however the medieval kingdom of Bosnia first gained independence at around 1200. Then in the 15th century it became part of the Ottoman Empire, until it was annexed by Austria in 1908. Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina becomes the sight of the assassination of Austrian King, Franz Ferdinand. This was the trigger for WW1. Following WW2 Bosnia and Herzegovina becomes a state in the former communist country of Yugoslavia, under the rule of Josip Broz Tito. During this time Bosnian capital Sarajevo held the 1984 winter olympic games, the only olympic games staged in former Yugoslavia. After Tito's death in 1980, Slobodan Milosevic becomes the president of Yugoslavia. After ethnic tension and the break out of the 1991 war between Croatia and Milosevic's Yugoslav (Serb) army, Bosnia and Herzegovina once again declared independence in 1992. A civil war between ethnic groups resulted in which Bosnian Serbs, supported by the Yugoslav army, seizes large parts of the country and ethnically cleanses non-Serbs. The following years see the initiation of planned genocide operations by the Serb army against the Muslim and Croat ethnicities, as well as war crimes committed by individuals of all three ethnicities. The war finally ended in 1996 with the signing of the Dayton agreement, which split Bosnia into two ethnic states, the Republika Srpska (Serb population) and the Federacija (Muslim and Croat population).
Unit:
Armija BIH (Army of Bosnia and Herzegovina) was Bosnia's army which fought for independence between 1992 and 1996, and attempted to supress Milosevic's and Mladic's army. The army was mostly made up of Bosnian Muslims. With similarities to the Vietnam war, the army fought courageously, in what seemed an impossible struggle against the much larger and more technologically advanced Serb army.
Leader:
Because of the complicated political situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, no specific leader is selected for this CIV. The leader is "Prjedsjednik BIH" or the "President of Bosnia and Herzegovina".
