Like the title says. It's a total exploit to sell off horses for 10x profit and then later on not be able to trade cloth, rum, cigars, ect for market value because they have no gold left. Can't they be made smarter with their gold early on and then be given more later?

Actually, I like it the way it now is; i.e. as long as the horses, weapons and tools are still rare they'll pay a huge price for them; afterwards they'll get the goos from the Europeans anyway.

Judging from the gameplay mechanic, they're about the same as huts in civ4 I'd say - fast cash to fund your first few rounds, a bit like treasure. If they'd always get some money per turn, I fear that would be counterproductive, since you'd actually be trading with the natives more then with Europe, bypassing taxes and the need to have ships etc. So, I do not think trading with the natives should be a viable choice in the endgame - but this is my opinion, I'm interested to hear what everyone else has to say. Do the natives actually get money if you trade with them? In one game I had to buy tobacco from them in order to please my two tobacco imigrants (that really makes sense, they know how to produce cigars before they knew what tobacco was, they can't plant it effectively, but they can build cigar factories ;).!

What's the the maximum gold they tribes have? In most of my games it seems to be around 4000?

Edit: Argh, this isn't the general discussion forum, sorry anyway ;)...

You could try this:

XML\Terrain\CIV4YieldInfos.xml

edit <iNativeBuyPrice> and they won't pay that high prices
10 for horses and 17 for Muskets maybe a little bit too high

maybe lower <iNativeConsumptionPercent>

Its a bit of strategy involved as well. Do buy from them as well. Then they have more gold. Might seem expensive sometimes on first glance but it enables you to sell them more goods for prime profit. Actually lowering the price of those goods in the end.
Thats also why its ok to get food from them in my book.

The tribe might share a treasury. But each village offers different goods. So don't flood a single of their villages if you give nothing back... Go around with your trains / ships and disperse to different villages.

Im not utterly sure. But overall it should turn much out better.

Also the prosperous Tribes have much more gold in their coffers so go to the inca + azetechs + tupi
for huge ammounts of trade-gold.

Oh and the documentation of that part as of so many others seems not so well. So its not obvious naturally.

All that just for explanation and additional ideas of course. Its a mod-forum after all...

Im not utterly sure if a change just on the buying end alone does deliver a better experience. If you make them spend they're gold more wisely perhaps also lower the prices for buying goods from them. Otherwise the trade is not so much good anymore.
Also it whould make the game considerably harder and much more unlike col 1 were it was sorts of simmilar without the cap.
